I'm actually ok with this for the iX4, just as I embraced the quirky i3 interior. It is an acknowledgement that the BEV experience prioritizes efficiency, technology, and a futuristic concept of luxury. On BMWs that supposedly still focus on driving engagement, it is sad to see an interior design that in no way focuses on the driver.

Kinda screwing over G20 early adopters.

Basically never support BMW by purchasing the launch car. Wait 2-3 years for a much more resolved and rounded product.

It's kind of a vicious cycle though. 3 years after an LCI and a new model is out making the previous tech dated.

It's not like you're being forced to buy an M car. The new Hyundai EVs look quite nice don't they? Maybe you should take a look.

I love the control panel above with the wood and glass idrive controller, but the dash screen graphics on the iX are awful if that's what they are going to give the 3/4 next.

I like the look too, and glad they kept the iDrive controller, but touch capacitive buttons are a poor move in my opinion. There's no way to physically tell which button you are hitting without looking. Not to mention moving the AC controls into the infotainment (at least for the iX) is also an annoying choice. This whole "decluttering" trend in the automotive industry is getting a bit ridiculous in my opinion.

Ah yeah I see what you mean, nice to look at but as you say not sure they'd be practical to use on the move.

I think my X3M has nearly 100 buttons and switches in the cabin plus VC (never use that) and a touchscreen (never use that) the idrive controller and steering wheel mounted controls are all I ever really use, but I like having the buttons there.

BMW got “industrial” and it will collect the fruits of that marketing ideas: the non-enthusiast car image, just another mass production manufacturer.

If you like OTA cars good for you mate. Buy it and move on.
I personaly don’t want a car that receives, downloads and installs things without my control.
I want to be in control. The fact that you want to be a sheep of the mondial flock is your problem, not mine.
Never liked the windows telling me what to do and what to install. You might like your computer to tell everything about you or to tell you what you can install and not. I don’t.

Not last, is a forum for BMW people. All comments against someones ideas that are not car related are futile. Like, “oh I hate the complaints”. Move on then mate, what are you: a masochist?

I believe that as a guy that experienced an engine blow on a highly maintained car at 80,000 km but still buys this brand and has three BMW’s in his garage I can call myself an enthusiast and a true fan of the brand.

Keep in mind that THE ENTHUSIASTS build the image of this brand and they were the true “influencers” before even the term was invented. And an enthusiast wants his brand to suceed.
Nobodycomes in here with the intent to bash the brand (i believe). We fight to get the mojo back, that’s all.
Or the copy-paste design that we are getting lately is not the brand we fell in love with in the past....

I already bought a M2CS, thank you for the condescension. I was referring to the current crop of BMW's rotten fruits, M or otherwise. They are big, heavy, and ugly: I'd rather ride a donkey to work than be seen in a G80/82.

With thanks for your remarkable insight, it may in fact be the case that Hyundai will be a more attractive proposition in the near future than BMW is today.

Both BMW and MB misjudged Lexus when launched in 1985. I bet they don't have the same view now.

Enjoy your humble pie

Talk about something to complain about. why drop your standards to a Tesla. One of the worst quality cars in terms of finish in the car market today. IMO.

Yeah, but fastest and safest.
All cars are good. Each have their strengths.
All I'm saying is BMW design is becoming streamlined, why is everyone getting so emotional?

2019 G20 3 series is the last decent and true BMW as I see. New models will have chinese design orientation. I love China but I don't like chinese design for cars. Especially for BMWs. I wonder why BMW does not make different models for China with huge grills, big curvy rear lights, headlights with giant blue plastic inserts, agressive ambient lighting with several blue colors and of course long wheel base for all models. They will oversell competition for sure. And for the rest of the world they can keep true BMW design and driving dynamics.

The problem with some of the "Enthusiast" people is like some of the Apple fanboys their whole identity lies with the brand and last time i checked identity politics is nothing but sad state of affairs. If you build your life around a company and its brand then that tells more of you then the brand in it self. (again its a brand)

If you don't like the change deal with it but if your way of dealing with it is commenting negativity on everything BMW releases because you got hurt by the company then you ain't being that much of a help now are you. This new tech is probably gonna be good for the cars in the long run by being able to apply OTA updates makes cars less useless because if the next infotainment system demands you to buy a complete new car then i am glad BMW is going down the road of more high tech development of their cars in terms of both infotainment/gauge clusters etc...

In the end there is brand out there for people who likes nostalgic stuff and the good old times as some would say and its Porsche, they haven't changed the 911 sens 1962 so there is a place for those "Enthusiast"

I'm exited to finally see BMW daring to make changes in the way as it does. They are willing to change and adapt to new markets witch is what a company should do to survive and attract new customers even if some of the old ones gets hurt a long the way (again more of a you issue so to speak).

And as it has been stated so many times this far the sales outcome will determine BMW's fate the coming years and their decisions they made up until this point and the release of the new cars for purchases and until people gets their hands on the cars. Then we shall se if it was a good strategy or not. If not then simply change the design again to what it was and the problem is solved but if you then don't want to buy it after that then you weren't much of a "Enthusiast" to begin with now were you?

If they drive as good as BMW is claiming it will, if you read beyond all the talks about the grills and the nonsense regarding that and the hofmeister kink you would think i they would have killed of Mr Wilhelm Hofmeister himself who died at least 40 years ago or so. And that tells a lot of the people clinging to the old kink, then other then that i think the cars will be a good drive.

So lets drop the Sweetheart talk that you do here because that talk is the same type of talk the old people were doing back in the 50-60s "Sweetheart don't think you know anything we the older ones knows best"
You put it nicely. I said the same but the dude runs this joint took my comment off, it is not easy to be a woman on this site oh heck, even am a race track driver.

Say what you will, but i think the iX's floating tablet design actually works, since it at least appears to be "coming out" of the dash rather than being planted above the AC vents in Mercedes CLA fashion. From what it looks like in that i4 spy shot, the screen layout will be similar to the iX, if not copy-paste. If that design also finds its way into the LCI 3 series, then so be it. I'll sacrifice a dashboard if it means the cost cutting will allow more money being put into the driving dynamics. Whole lot of fuss over something we haven't even seen yet...

Hilarious to see folks on this forum get on their high horse complaining about everything they don't like about what Bmw is doing all because a pic of the new infotainment is posted. Just accept it and move on, or move to another brand
