TBH, I don't mind the shifter change to the little tab thingy at least...

This is barely a different design, the shifter still there... the only thing different is the surround for the screens is connected instead of a slight overlap

Adding to that, the reason why some stay is the same reason why they got into a BMW in the first place. That's not to say the 3 Series today is what it was in during the E46 or E90 era, but those aspects are still better than the competition, at least in my opinion.

The C Class abandoned trying to be a sport sedan with the W205 and definitely with the W206. The A4(S4)/A5(S5) have been massive disappointments but that's largely my fault for believing what I read and heard in the media. I found nothing fun or sporty about it other than the exhaust. Steering was light, numb with no feeling and the suspension was tuned to be more of a GT/cruising car which isn't necessarily a bad thing but not what I look for in this segment.

We can throw all the criticism at BMW but at the end of the day, they still do the sport sedan better than the rest - at least when it comes to the 3 Series.

I don't see how you get completely different..... the dash below the screen isn't changing in any meaningful way.

Remember they aren't implementing the over the top concept, it is much more toned down. It is still 2 functionally separate screens just connected by seamless gloss trim vs overlap.

What concept ⁉️

There was never a concept car

It's a completely different design from the current dash design

At the risk of having my head blown off, I kinda like it - simple and streamlined

The picture you posted looks pretty much the same as the current G20. What's different?

That's a 2-Series test car in his photo, not a 3/4-series.

This upper dash design draws from the i4 concept (photo attached).

If you can look past the minimalist concept car interior and replace it with the standard 3 or 4 series interior but add the longer curved screen section that allows for larger screens (but still two separate screens, gauges and dash ) and possibly a shorter lever in the control area on the tunnel you have what is coming.

As I noted the only significant difference is the two screen sections share trim vs the faux overlap design of the pre-lci

That's what I thought as well. I was confused by his comment that that photo looks so different from the 3 Series (unless he was referring to the current 2er).

Since the F44 2 series already used 3 series like interior, I think G42 will keep using the same design and kind of don't believe they will change it in the second production year. The i4 interior looks ok to me simple and futuristic but if they keep the same center console and just change that screen, I rather they don't change it...

I'd rather they bring back that RAW exhilarating 2002tii feel, and while we're at it, is like to be younger, fitter and with some extra hair in the right places : lol:

...... sadly, I know none of these will happen in my lifetime

The installation of the current two displays looks cleaner than the lci display with little brown feet holding it to the dash. I guess it will be a good for stashing shit behind the screen.

The iDrive 8 has been revealed:

Personally, I don't like this unintegrated dual-tablet solution. It's like Merc sold its remaining tablets to BMW after moving to a completely new design...

New Spy Shots with a cloth covering what is most likely the redesigned dashboard/infotainment screens.

The current G20 setup gives you a lot of screen space, but does it in a visually pleasing way with the leather on top of the tach/speedo and black gloss plastic divider connecting the two. There's definitely a 'wow' factor to having two massive screens laid out in a big flat plane, but it's also a downgrade design-wise IMO.

The standard size gear shifter is still there so that's a good thing!

wow this is one of the few times I really dont like the lci version more than the pre lci...I am a fan of changing to the new screen type on the electric vehicles because it clearly distinguishes them as an electric variant, but changing it on the G20 makes it look very out of place IMO.
