Tested the trunk rattle fix by driving on cobble stone, potholes and cement roads. Its gone for good. The power tailgate however does not seem to like the tape on the ring. I will try if it works with electrical tape. I still have a muffled creaking noise from the either driver's side ORVM or the AC vent area.

Edit: Squeaks are stronger when the car is cold. Sounds like a squeaky toy lmao.

The rattle was back this morning and I took the car to the dealership. They gave me an X3 M40i as a loaner. It is fast but not as fun as the M340i.

My 330i went in this morning for a list of items, the trunk rattle among them. Hopefully I'll get some resolution here in a couple days.

I told them to test it when the car is cold, the trunk rattle can only be heard when its cold out.

When I tested the car in sport + and was hauling - there was a vibration coming from the speaker on the front dash. Dealership said something needed to be tightened in there.. I'm still awaiting delivery of mine. Hope you find out what is causing the problem.

Got my car back this afternoon. Apparently there is an acoustical seal at the bottom of the back window. New models aren't shipping with it now (so I was told.) They removed and it stopped rattling. I can confirm at least so far (driving home) that on bumpy roads, it is better.

The rattling and squeaks are concerning. I'm about to buy my first bmw and one of the main reasons I'm buying one is for the build quality and quiet, quality interior. Is everyone having noise issues? I had a 2015 mustang gt that had several little rattles and squeaking and it drove me nuts.

It's super quiet and well built, and that's it's problems it's quiet... you'll hear every minor little thing, I haven't experienced this trunk rattle everyone has been talking about but I did experience the front speaker vibration really lightly but it went away on its own... honestly man you won't be disappointed coming over to bmw there well built!!

I think this is something that shouldn't be forgotten. An average car also has all kind of sounds but since all you are hearing is the tires on tbe road and the wind you won't notice.

I got my M340i back last night. Dead silent until I got back home but noticed a very muffled trunk rattle. I think it will slowly return. They said they adjusted the trunk locking mechanism to fix it. They said they also identified another rattle from the center console and took it apart but the part that is causing the noise is not available in the US.

Can you please give us a bit more detail regarding the location of this part? Did you see it?

I did not. I just am going by what was told to me and what is on the work performed.

I know exactly what that is, its the piece of rubber glued to the bottom of the rear glass. Very thin strip that was previously suspected for squeaking noises on this thread. I cannot imagine how this can cause a rattle though.

I also struggle to see how that strip can cause a rattle. In saying that though I applied Gummi pfledge to the strip last night and it definitely made the rattle worse when I drove to work this morning. I am a bit scared to remove the strip myself due to it being glued to the rear window so may apply some felt tape to the strip and see if that helps.

In terms of the Connected Drive issue that you guys are experiencing, I was experiencing the same issue so tool my 330i to the dealership last week and they updated the software. It is not 100% but is a lot better than it was previously. If it doesn't connect I just turn the WiFi on my phone on and off and it then connects and works.

So, update again, regarding that rubber strip between rear window and trunk door...

Went to the dealership yesterday, they took another look and put teflon tape on the bottom side of the trunk door. They did it before too, but only on parts where door meets the big fat rubber. Now they put it also on the place where that strip meets the trunk door. They said that because of the shape of the strip and the door they touch only in corners, not on full length.

For now there are no squeaks, yesterday and today, after that "fix".

That's a place where unwanted noise comes from, for sure, because I had a cotton sheet in my trunk all the time, and before this fix, whenever squeaking started, I pulled over, put the sheet over that rubber strip and closed the trunk over the sheet. Squeaks stopped immediately.

I just hope this teflon tape will be long(ish) term solution. If you want pics I can take them and put them here.

I am looking for someone who can drive my car with me lying down in the trunk to remediate these rattles and squeaks.

I did it with my kid (9yo). I was driving over the bump in my yard. Pulled down the rear seats, he was in the trunk and told me exactly where the squeaks come from. And he was right (at least in my case). I'll upload the pics later.

UPDATE: here are the pics.
