I actually like the styling, but I can't get over the fact that it is essentially just a reskinned BMW. Hopefully, the rumors of a high HP hybrid in the future are true and there is something more to differentiate the car from the BMW.

It really appears that Toyota just phoned this one in and put in little to no effort at all into making it special. Having the exact same interior as the BMW is lazy and maybe even unforgivable. Sadly it seems that instead of developing a car that should have highlighted Toyotas engineering prowess they went chasing margins instead.

I'm also not too enthusiastic about the fact that they are going to release a 4 cyl model. A 4 cyl Supra is sacrilege and only dilutes the brand imo.

BMW has confirmed a fixed roof Z4?

I am actually surprised how different the interiors are. I was expecting an exact copy with Toyota emblems. Besides some shared switch gear, the designs are nothing alike. I would say the outside and inside definitely look like Toyota design.

1. This is basically a Z4 Coupe but if the pricing speculation of $55K for premium trim is true (sans dealer markup) then this car is $13K cheaper than the Z4 m40i. Sounds like a deal from a pure value standpoint.
1b. Factor in that the original MKIV turbo retailed for $40K in 90's money, after inflation that works out to be around $65-70K. Still a great value (again - assuming $55K is real). The nitrous bottle-is-half-full guy in me says this is like getting a credit for mods
2. B58 is a good motor with a lot of potential. Imagine after market turbos, meth, e85, etc. I actually think it is great that the Toyota aftermarket will get into the B58 because usually the non-M motors don't get any love. The bigger the aftermarket the better for all.
3. On the performance front, let us not forget that the Z4 turned in a 7:55 ring time. Better than an M2, and just a little slower than an M2 Comp. No official numbers from Toyota, but I'd imagine a stiffer roof could only help.
4. Finally, the seams on the car I think are ideal for exterior modification. The way it is "cut" I almost think Toyota did it to make it easier to turn into a wide body. I am almost certain the aftermarket will exploit it too. This car is basically a big-boy GT86 and I think Gazoo + aftermarket are going to do some pretty interesting things. Let's hope anyways.

It's a BMW's ugly cousin, but it's what's inside that matters most right? RIGHT??
+1 It has potential to be a great drivers car. They did benchmark a Cayman for handling. Starting price of $50k seems like great value. It is basically what BMW won't build, a sudo Z4M coupe. Sure it is missing the S motor, but so is the non-comp M2...it is still quite the car. With the pricing of the Z4 M40i at $65k+, BMW left no room for a Z4M. This could be it for this chassis, Supra and M40i. No manual option is the only thing I see wrong.

Agreed, I'm a bit upset that they didn't try to keep the "cockpit" style interior from the MKIV.

This won't sell IMHO. Too expensive for a Toyota.
It'll start off as a hot seller, just because it's a "Supra", but will quickly die down , just like the last Supra. Toyota could hardly sell any of the last ones because they were just too expensive.

For price comparisons, the Stingray base price is $56K or about what the Supra is supposed to base at. It's $62K with the Z51, which is a world beater for that kind of money. It also has 465 HP and will run and hide from this car on any track.

For me, Toyota did something very similar that Honda (Acura) did with the NSX. They made the public wait WAY too long for a car that is too expensive and doesn't really set itself apart from anything out there (yes, the NSX is a hybrid with tech out the wazoo, but it's no quicker than a Grand Sport Corvette or McLaren 570S or GT3 around the track).

I'd say you are way off.

Everything in that interior is BMW from the steering wheel to the dash, center console, infotainment, buttons, climate control, etc...

Do you own a BMW??? This is an exact copy. Those seats MIGHT be Toyota.

In fact from the pictures it looks like the Supra will get the cheapo crap steering wheel instead of the nice M performance styled wheel.

toyota has stuggled in the affordable sports car segment. I feel bad tho. 10 years ago, there was a distinction between a sports car and your avg accord speed wise. The threshold is much lower now. I still loved my celica for what it was, maybe this car will have that feel,

That interior is 100% BMW, except for the crummy steering wheel with the gigantic spokes.

Probably not since this is a BMW.
