I am coming from owning 5 Seven series cars and sat in the new G20. I have extended leather in my current car and while it is very nice, the upkeep can be tedious. I have also owned 3 previous 3 series and now my daughter has a f30 and my wife has on also, a convertible. I dont fell the interior is cheap and from a standpoint of maintenance, it's great. It's not a 100k car and it's as good as any car in that criteria. I will be purchasing one soon.

I disagree with just about everything the OP said and there goes 3 minutes of my life I'll never get back.😖

The only car they wanted to supervise was m850 and even that by the time I got it it they didn't care. m850 feels and drives like convertible x5. Feels huge and has softer ride. Engine is pretty powerful, of course, but hated the ride. x3m I liked a lot more than I thought I would. I like the new m design inside. Back to the OP comment, I don't want to put anymore oil into that fire. but one part I hated on m340 was center button cluster near shifter. Comfort/sports/whatever button is a single button, instead of separate 3, feel super cheap and whole thing kind of gives way when pressing it. Same design seems to be shared between new models but on x5 and x7 in the showroom it feels a little better. Different plastic and doesn't have this movement. |

Thanks for the write up! I 100% agree with the comments about the material choice and increasing size of the car. The world would be an amazing place if an M240i sedan the size of an E46 with a manual, rwd platform, and inline 6 existed. Sadly that won't happen.
I plan on testing an M340i as well at the M Town event, and also have a C43 test drive planned on the same day as the dealer is next door and it will give me a good back to back feel of each car. |

We have one on order. We spent a good amount of time driving it before deciding. It is larger, though i didn't notice too much compared to the M3. The power delivery is great, its not a raw as the M3 but still impressive. I found the interior ok, not great. I did notice the plastic if i recall correctly. The seats were comfy. I'm glad they brought back the bolster (perfect for stashing your cell). I HATED that grill in pictures but i'm actually warming to it. I added the CF spoiler to give it some flare. I don't know if I'll enjoy it as much as the M3, I know i'll enjoy the comfort more though.
I didn't have an F30 so I can't speak on the OP's post but I think when you own the previous model you have high standards for the next and it takes a lot to win you over. Going wayyyy back, when Acura changed from the Integra GSR to RSX i didn't want it and when Lexus when from the IS300 to the 250/350 I didn't want that either. |

Love love love our two F30's (340 & 328 both MSports) and very much looking forward to our new G20 M340 next year. Had a G20 loaner for about 10 days and enjoyed it quite a bit

I've driven a red M340 today on the M-Town event today.
Got mixed feelings. I owned 2018 340 xDrive M Sport with adaptive suspension for 6 months last year which I mostly liked except for the steering which I hated. Currently I drive 2016 535 xDrive base model which I hate except for the steering which is kind of OK. Yes M340 feels a little bit bigger than 2018 340, but coming from F10 it did not feel large to me, rather small instead. I liked the engine power but not the sound. It was too noisy to my taste in all modes, including the comfort mode. Normally I do not want to hear a car's engine unless I do want to hear it and I only want to hear the engine when playing with something like a Mustang on a highway. In this M340 you hear the engine all the time even when just following a 4 cylinder Camry. There also was too much wind noise coming from the drivers window. It actually was so bad that I suspect that something was wrong with the car. The car was a fully loaded M340 with a track pack. I did not like the suspension much either. Very firm wheels/tires and somewhat soft suspension in comfort mode. In sport/sport+ mode the suspension was nicely firm but 19 wheels made the ride choppy and too firm to my taste. The steering was firm, heavy and weird just like 2017 340 with M Performance pack I once drove. Overall the car reminded me that 2017 340 with M performance pack. That car I somewhat liked but disqualified it as a family car. My lease ends before the end of this year and I am still not decided between M340 and 540 MSport. If BMW would put 382hp engine into 540, I probably would get a 540. Now I do not know but leaning towards 540 Maybe I am just too old for this car. I am over 40 with a wife and a 7 year old kid. My family does not object speed (I routinely get to 120mph in the big kahuna 535) but they not going to accept much noise of any kind. |

Wow, I love hearing the engine all the time. Plus I drive with the windows down all the time so the window noise isn't a factor. Funny how your negatives are positives to me
