G26 4 Series Gran Coupe Spied!

The G26 4 Series Gran Coupe has now been spied. The G26 will be used as the platform for the 4 Series Gran Coupe as well as the BMW i4 EV (which has already been spotted).

The G26 will join the 4 Series lineup which also includes the G22 Coupe and G23 Convertible.

According to ynguldyn, the preliminary US lineup for the 4 Series Gran Coupe and i4 are expected to be: 430i, 430i xDrive, M440i xDrive, i4 60 sDrive, i4 80 sDrive80, i4 80 xDrive.

Debuts are expected in 2021, and both gas and electric version will likely be introduced simultaneously.

Both vehicles - i4 and G20 based Gran Coupe - are eagerly awaited for quite some time.

What I like about i4 more than anything that it was designed by engineers not incentivized to produce a vehicle resembling an angry yet helpless robotic moon rover.

BMW has many models that they'll cut from their lineup soon enough.

They have no choice but to cut all the fat from the bone.

The f36 4gc apparently sold well enough that they brought it back in the g20 chassis. There are several other models that are being discontinued after their first run.

I never understood why people get critical about an auto maker producing more models. If successful, it broadens existing markets, or potentially even creates new markets (making a product people didn't know they wanted). In the case of the 4gc, bmw wasn't the first to market with a 4 door coupe (I think it was MB), but if it's a product concept that sells, why wouldn't they get in on some market share?

Because it doesn't sell well here, vs Europe.

So they offer jacked up quasi wagons here instead.

it will be hard to make something look better than the A5 Sportback....

I hope that

a) it's lighter than the current 4
b) it's no bigger than the current 4
c) they don't screw up the grilles and the front end
d) they improve steering feel over the current 4
e) they don't put run flat tyres on the M Perf model
f) they offer the M Perf model in RWD

Then I might buy one . If it's bigger and heavier, with an awful front end, I'll just have to save myself some ££ and hang onto my 440i with MPPSK

If this is still going to be on the extended wheel base platform (as previous rumors have suggested) then it will be my next BMW. Roomy back seats (that can fold down) and a hatch provides a ton of utility. It looks pretty sharp and I imagine the M40i version won't be too shabby on the road. Fingers crossed.

The A5 might look a bit better, but with its cramped back seats and smaller trunk, it's not a true people hauler and family car like this would be.

The current 4 series GC is more a GT than a GC. I hope the new generation will be more sleek from back.

I think Audi A5 sportback looks good.

I agree 100%. Remember when BMW said even number cars would be coupes and convertibles, and odd number would be sedans? They've got way too many models. It's diluting the brand. So many of us just want a great driving car like the used to be. Where's the ultimate driving machine???
