Carplay: perpetual or 3 years?

Hi there,

Here, the "Professional Digital Services" extra has included the Carplay Preparation. By looking at the details, it shows as "Perpetual", but there is a remark that says "BMW does does not ensure service availability after 3 years".
I keep hearing people saying that Carplay is subscription.
Any idea what the 3 years remark means? Is it perpetual, or is it 3 years? Kind of confusing.

In the U.S. CarPlay is provided for one year at no charge. After that it is either $80/yr or $300 for 20 years of service. I imagine the three year caveat is because of rapidly changing technology. BMW can’t guarantee things won’t change making the system installed in the car obsolete.
