Painting exhaust covers

I was looking to black out everything on my m340i and I was looking at the exhaust covers and at 250 plus shipping for some tips seem a bit much. I was wondering If anyone has just painted the stock exhaust covers gloss black? I mean some high temp paint and some clear coat should knock it out for maybe 15$ Any thoughts?

I've painted the exhaust tips from my 330e & my girlfriend's Mini with Foliatec Exhaust Pipe 2C Gloss and it works fine. Very good product from Foliatec!

So I went ahead and did it. Looks pretty close to what the blacked out bmw ones look like and it took maybe an 1-2 hours with prep and painting. Save 250$!!! Used VHT black gloss and VHT clear coat, so total was 18$ with painters tape added in.

How did you get the exhaust tips out of the rear diffuser? Looks like tabs on them.

Super easy, there is a video but basically 2 10mm bolts that hold them in than you just angle them out. Takes maybe a minute or two to remove.
