BSM/shadowline is the best way to mute that grille and give the new 4 some visual help, so here's are some visual comparisons of each using the UK configurator:

Hi,
I think an M440i in all black would look pretty good!
In above photos - actually makes the 340 look pretty old fashioned, by comparison!
Cheers

I still think the aftermarket is going to come through will G22/G23/G26 grill replacements that effectively cut the grill in half top to bottom, remove the texture from the lower portion of the grill, and allow it to blend in with the lower air inlet.

These will work best with black paint and black grill surrounds as seen here, but even for other colors it will help. And if you go further and come up with replacement grills/surrounds that change briefly to body color starting at the top of the license plate area and finishing at the bottom of it, it'll work on any color.

Of course a replacement front bumper with a shorter grill would be an even better solution, but I think that something simple like the above could work as a quick, easy to install fix for those who don't like the OEM look.

Seeing the the European license plate itself does a somewhat decent job of splitting the grill, I could imagine a simple trim piece going in that location (sort of an elongated H shape with some curves) that wouldn't even require a grill replacement, just a couple of bolts mounting it like that plate and you're good to go.

Yep, that's certainly another possible solution. But, since it would sit on top of the existing parts it might look a bit unsightly from the side or other angles. My thought was that a product that incorporates replacement grill/trim would perhaps offer the best combination of easy DIY-installability and positive visual impact.

I'm sure the wizards who design all the popular aftermarket items like US reflector deletes and other cosmetic mods will come up with some great ideas.

It seems shadow line can only go with the jet black wheels according to the UK configuration?

Even If that's the case it could be unique to that region.

Unfortunately, in the US, I think you still can't even get an M340i with black trim from the factory, so the same might apply to the M440i. I suppose it's possible they could offer it port installed starting later this year though, even if just for the G22.

I think for 2021MY you can. There's a new separate Shadow Line package you can choose, and it's $350 or $300.

I'm sorry but I hate the grille. The car had so much potential but I just can't see past it.... maybe the M will be better.... but I'm not optimistic

G20 is where it's at for this generation. Still doesn't hold a candle to F8x though.

I've never seen such a busy front end on a bimmer... they went over the top with lines and angles. My head hurts looking at the front end alone...

G22 all the way. Looks super sleek and 10x better than the G20 in every angle, IMO. Excited to see what the GC will look like.

The 4-series looks so much better. And finally they've made the side profile interesting enough where it doesn't suffer from long slab syndrome like in E92/F32.

Paint that fking G22's face in Vantablack already.

The rest of it doesn't look too bad, keeping in perspective it's being compared to a G20.

It's region specific. The Belgian configurator allows you to select the shadow line package regardless of wheel choice.

When I turn the backlight and contrast on my laptop all the way down, the 4 series grill doesn't look half bad!

The front looks they they tried to one up Edsel, by putting two hideous Edsel grills side by side. Hoping they do something to make the M4 look better or I will sadly be replacing my current F83 with something other than a BMW.
