330e Petrol engine warm up
Hi
I’ve had my 330e since last November, but I can’t find a quick way to warm up the petrol/combustion engine, apart from leaving it in Sport mode or driving over 30 miles. I don’t find Adaptive mode makes it any quicker, then when I try to choose some extra acceleration it comes up engine cold. Does anybody know a different way other than leaving it in Sport mode ? Thanks |

Maybe set battery control for 100%, so it retains all the charge?
I don't have a 330e yet (due in October), so maybe I'm not understanding that function correctly. |

That’s not a bad idea, I know it’s defaulted at 80%. Although my perception of it was in was in conjunction with the BMW Navigation system, which maps out where to best use the electric, when the M25 is going is messed up for my journey home it starts using the petrol engine much sooner on my journey , saving the electric for when I’m going to be stuck in traffic further down the motorway. It’s definitely worth a try though, thanks

Not trying to hijack the thread but...
I've often wondered with PHEVs whether you could have a scenario where a stone cold engine fires up at quite high speeds - perhaps if you set it to only use electric and the batteries run out. Doesn't feel like it would be too good for the engine. Is there something to stop this happening?

Not at all
The auto box has prevented it for me a couple of times when I’ve wanted to open the car up, put it in sport mode, put my foot down and it comes up on the dash “Cold Engine” and only, gives you a very limited amount of power. Which is why I started this thread as it can be frustrating if you choose to put your foot down and the full power isn’t at your disposal. I would say with the scenario your talking about Ive had it when it changes it over to hybrid mode (using both engines) before the electric range gets to zero, but when it happened to me it was around the town, so low speeds. I would imagine with higher speeds it would change it over sooner to hybrid (using both) to compensate for the engine needing to warm up for the speed (the top speed in electric is 68 mph) |
