Does removing the OPFs (aka new exhaust) cause a CEL?

Hi! Anyone here with a custom exhaust that removed the OPFs from to midpipe? like AWE for example. Did it cause a CEL for you?

I'd have to see the full design of the exhaust, but I suspect not.

From previous experience the CEL would be triggered from either the pre / post Cat O2 sensors being faulty or missing signal, both of which would be before the OPF.

Yes the CEL will come on and eventually limp mode. It can take a couple of months, but it will happen.

This. It will happen.

Also illegal to remove in the UK and most of the EU.

Dang, alright. Was looking at the AWE exhaust but now I don't know. Anyone have any suggestions for exhausts?

I removed the OPF and within mins it triggers a cel and limp mode.

Thankfully I've got BM3 and can simply ignore the cel in the same way you ignore the cel for de-cat.

You were able to remove the limp mode with BM3?

Yes, they have a button for OPF delete. Exactly the same as the other button for CAT delete.

I have the BM3 app on my phone and flashed stage 2 remap in 20 seconds. Awesome tool.

Wow, awesome! Did you have to unlock the DME to use BM3?

I think you'll get a better sounding car leaving the OPD in place and investing in a decent aftermarket exhaust.

Remus / Milltek are always good options

The OEM exhaust is one piece from back box to cat. This one piece includes a resonator and the OPF.

I chopped mine after the resonator but before the back box - thus removing OPF and resonator. I replaced this with a bespoke piece of pipe and mated it to my decat and the back box.

Cost me £350.

Sounds quite when driving normal, but quite aggressive when pushing hard.

How are you planning to get around MOT and servicing when they test exhaust? Back to stock?

I only ask because OPF removal is illegal and an MOT failure and I don't know how to get around it.

MOT is 3yrs away - so I've got time to worry about that. I've got the original pipe in one big piece, so it's an hour on the ramp to put it back to stock 👍

I plan to have it serviced at main dealer. It's lowered, remapped, decatted, induction kit - so the warranty is out the window anyway

Yeah, that's a problem because I really like my warranty lol, I think I'll go with the piggyback AC Schnitzer is offering, bumps it up to 420hp and the exhaust from them. They offer their own warranty with these which is awesome.

Thanks for all the info though. Really insightful.

MOT itself isn't an issue. Few extra pounds will get you sorted
