Where is the negative battery terminal in the engine bay on a G20 B58?

Hi all,

Noob question. Can anyone confirm where the negative battery terminal is on the M340i in the engine bay? A mate needs a jump start. So while I can clamp negative to ground on his car, I need to know where the negative is on mine. BMW manual is very vague and alludes to a "special point" that points to nothing (thanks BMW).

Although unlabelled unlike the positive terminal, I'm guessing it's this protrusion. Anyone know for sure?

(Yes this is a 320i or 330i but it's the same layout)

Yep, this is the negative terminal.

For additional confirmation, stolen from other thread:

Yeah but that is the vague and incorrect diagram in the Owner's Manual I was referring to.

The positive terminal is labelled in the bay so is easy enough to find, and its position correctly identified by the manual.

However for the negative terminal, the arrow is pointing to .... what? It looks like it's pointing to some section of the chassis. There's nothing at that location in the engine bay, I checked.

Or are they pointing to this?

That's what I then thought they meant, but that's just a chassis bolt, it's not a terminal. So the manual is plain wrong. You can see from my and Yossi's photos that the real neg terminal is just aft of the washer fluid tank cap, but it's not even shown in the manual, much less correctly identified with the arrow!

The photo Yossi123 is the correct one. The manual is wrong.

The manual is def off. I used it as a reference and found the neg terminal in a few seconds. Apologies if the pic made things worse.
