MILEAGE BLOCKER F series detection
I had a conversation with one of my customers about mileage blocker the other day. He mentioned to me that he has been using it for nearly 2 years now. He said that he usually unplug before doing regular service with BMW to keep the car under warranty. I was amazed that BMW didn't notice such device has been installed previously. AFASK anything that you plug into the car is recorded in car's data log. What acutually surprised me, those kind of stuff filter the CAN signal and the mileage doesn't change spontaneously after you unplug it.
I argued with my customer about BMW can detect any device hooked on the car, even simply simple GPS tracker. Can anyone confirm this info? Thanks guys |

Your customer sounds like a sleaze ball. and his reasoning is flawed because bmw offers extended warranties that you can purchase if you decided to keep your car past the factory warranty. It's illegal, punishable by up to 3 years in federal prison her in the USA.
As far as your original question as to whether or not bmw can tell, I have no idea. But as a business owner I recommend not doing business with someone who is planning on breaking the law, especially knowingly....

Melbourne, so I assume Australia. Don’t know the laws there. Obviously in the US, It’s a federal offense. However, let’s not get all holy here. There are many people on here who flagrantly violate federal emission laws.

There's a big difference between polluting a bit and intentionally committing fraud. You won't go to prison for having a catless DP on your car.

unfortuantely, after digging deep in this topic I found the expensive ones are hard to detect unless you can read the car logs. |

Highly illegal. That's why sellers of these things have to use disclaimers like this one: 'The use of the odometer stopper is intended only for research purposes, outside of public roads, and it allows testing on vehicles on dynamometer stands or in laboratory conditions.'

Wow... I didn't know such device was available or existed for sale. That means when we buy a pre-owned low mileage, we could be buying a much more used car?

I'd have to imagine that scan tools can pick up on that. Modern cars store mileage in several different places (to my knowledge) and can be read at those different locations, compared to each other, and flagged for incorrect odo. What I'd be really interested in hearing about is if a consumer level tool like a carly could pick it up...

I believe yes. Especially if the car's interior says the opposite. Those devices are hard to detect unless you remove the instrument cluster and look carefully at the connection. After doing deep research I found some suppliers calim that even after your remove the device the mileage won't change spontaneously. SCARRY

Catless DP is equally as bad, and is actually a felony in the US as well.
EPA is cracking down on diesel truck tunes/partrs, as well as manufacturers of DPs - such as APR. You operating a street car without a catalytic convertor makes you no different than the short guys rolling coal at stop lights. |
