Fine tuning auto parking/park assist thru coding

Sometimes the car goes extremely close - that the tyre hits the kerb if the kerb is really low. I saw a few settings in the PDC module which define the length/width/height of the car and was wondering if the auto park assist system uses these values to park the car. Maybe i could extend the width/length of the car to allow more breathing space and make it less of a snug fit when it auto parks?

Anyone tried changing these values to see if it makes a diff?

As fair as I know, PDC uses cars to measure the parking space a place. Maybe changing the length value can make a difference, where the assist to park in tighter spots.

Do you know if this could work? Also is there any risk in mucking with these values?

I don't know if this could work--I have never played with the settings that pertain to the physical characteristics of the vehicle. I am worried that I don't properly understand these settings. They could be used by multiple ECUs and functions, not only the parking assistant. For example, the comment for the CAR_LENGTH option in KAFAS reads "The vehicle length. NOTE: This parameter is used by the environment model (UFM) as well. Changes in format of value have to be checked with the responsible person first."

If you are brave enough, you can try changing the options you found and test if they affect PDC. If you don't see an immediate effect, code them back the way they were. If you see an effect, you should still carefully test other functions to make sure they were not adversely affected. But my recommendation is to leave them alone. You are likely playing with fire.

The curb is not taken into account when parking. It sees the two vehicles you're parking in between and uses those vehicles to gauge the distance. Your vehicle will hit the curb and it is not covered under warranty. driver is always responsible to be aware of vehicle surroundings and stop the vehicle if necessary.

Well, not so daring given my car is barely 2 weeks old
Thanks for the detailed response and averting a potential disaster!

This makes sense - because when the parking space is tighter - that's when the wheels go rub the kerb. When the space is wider - it does a better job of maintaining a safe distance from the kerb.

If you use the thing, make sure you have tire and wheel insurance.
