Sirius XM and CarPlay

I have a really specific question, hoping the community here can help me. When I use Sirius XM through the BMW interface, I have the ability to change stations via the heads-up display. I hit the thumb wheel on the steering wheel, the list of stations comes up in the HUD, and I can scroll through to the station I want.

Today, I was using Sirius XM in CarPlay, and tried to do the same thing. But the thumbwheel only lets me control the song (rewind / forward) in the HUD. I don't see the ability to change stations.

So, am I doing something wrong? Does the same ability to scroll channels exist in CarPlay's version of Sirius XM or only in the BMW interface.

Thanks!

The first operation you described is for when you're using native apps like XM radio, FM radio or carplay for music on the phone. Once you go into Pandora or likely the XM app on your carplay you will only get "next and "rewind".

I don't see a point to use XM on carplay when you have it already on your vehicle. In your vehicle it will be using satellite reception whereas on your phone it will be using internet connection, so there's really no point in using the XM app on carplay from your phone

Unless OP is using the app to listen to channels that aren't available to mere mortals on the built in XM for the vehicle

You use the same subscription on the online version. The point of the XM app on your phone is to be able to listen to your XM over the internet.

If you mean the channels that are online only - the current built-in Sirius XM incorporates all those channels. I think it's called Sirius XM 360 or something. It has all the satellite channels, and all the streaming channels too. For the streaming channels, it uses it's own data and it is integrated with the other channels really nicely. The only channels that the Sirius XM radio in the car doesn't receive are those that are powered by Pandora.

I really love how they implemented Sirius XM now by combining the satellite and the streaming together in the car so seamlessly and using the car's own data connection for it - much like the Spotify in the car. So, seeing that the OP has a 2021 bmw which I assume has the same Sirius XM and iD7, everything should be available in the built in Sirius XM unless they were looking for the Pandora operated channels.
