Sport vs Sport Plus - actual performance differences?

Am keen to find out what other M40i drivers have found the differences to be between Sport and Sport Plus settings.

To clarify, what I'm actually referring to is setting the 'engine' under Sport Individual, as Sport or Sport Plus.

I've found that using Sport Plus (compared to Sport), has more lag off the line as well as when accelerating suddenly at speed.

But it seems to have more top end power...

Anyone else found this?

Why does BMW make me choose between a laggy but higher-power option, or a less-laggy but lower power?? In this day and age isn't it reasonable to expect both from a 3-litre turbo petrol engine?

For reference I have my Dampers set to Sport, Gearbox set to Sport, and Steering set to comfort.

Sport plus will keep engine higher in revs and also shift be more aggressive in terms of burbles. Sport is just a lesser version of sport plus. Sport plus is for when you wana go bonkers. Quick throttle response, high even revs and engine braking and burbles and pops.

I find Sport Plus actually has more lag than Sport...

I'd be looking to see what is wrong, if it is more than a feeling, or possibly a wrong mix of settings. I'm surprised you even suggest BMW have made it that way.

BMW haven't designed it to be less responsive in Sport+, goes against all that Sport+ is about.

I will see how it is in the M40i when I have it in a couple of months, but in my current 30d, Sport+ is synonymous with an immediate response, just stroke the accelerator and you will be launched like a rocket...no lag at all. However, in comfort or adaptive mode, there is some lag.

There are two sport mode related threads going here, I think my question is better suited to this thread. My car is an x30i, but I'd imagine programming intent is similar to the m40 (which I should have got...). Is there a difference in transmission behavior between moving the shifter to the left for sport mode and selecting "Transmission:sport plus" in sport individual? Obviously in sport plus as a whole, everything goes into 'top mode', but most curious specifically about the transmission. for example, is moving the shift lever to sport redundant to having the car in sport plus, or having transmission set as sport plus in individual mode?

In comfort mode with shifter to the left the trans will essentially be in sport mode. Higher Revs, downshifts when coming up to stops, quicker shifts. It's separate from sport/sport plus settings. When you're in sport/sport plus and you push shifter to the left the trans will be more sporty separately from sport/sport plus settings. They are separately influenced.
