Idling X3 M40i for several hours
I was recently stuck at the top of a mountain in Utah waiting for the road down the canyon to be cleared. I was at a ski area and there were hundreds of cars waiting and idling and it was 19 degrees and snowing and really windy. Plus due to Covid, we couldn't go inside the restaurant except to use the bathroom or get grab and go food and no loitering inside. So to stay warm, the car was the only option. I had my X3 idling for about an hour and 15 minutes before I went inside and came back out and cleared snow and ice off car. Then another hour or more of idling and then the slow drive downhill. What are the short or long term engine ramifications of idling the car for long times? Every once in a while I would raise the RPM's just so it wouldn't be at a steady idle.

BTW...do you know a good touchfree car wash that takes all the salt and dirt off the surface? I know of a couple detailers but they can be more expensive. |

I'm in CH so the two I know of are Sinclair/Holiday gas station at 2220 E and Ft Union, across the street from the Mister Shine (which is NOT touch free). The other is Willowcreek Car Wash at 8659 Highland Dr, next to the Chevron and Carls Jr and Reams. These are automatic ones btw. |
