Long time lurker...first time poster. Military Officer stationed in Germany!

I'm super grateful for all the G01 posts that help me finalize my purchase of a '19 X3 M40i. Wanted to jump into the community and start documenting the customization of my X3 M40i. I pick her up from Bavarian Motor Cars in Wurzburg.

I'd welcome any advice and if there are any members in Germany, specially Hesse area, let know of a good tuner. I have a BMS Air Intake, VRSF Downpipe, and 15mm spacers...just waiting for the weather in Germany to get a bit better to do the install. Currently, I have 18 inch rims and tires for the current snow/icy weather, also have the OEM 21 inch run flats for the summer.

Is this the lightly used M40i that was at Rammstein? I came very close to pulling the trigger on it a couple weeks ago. I'm glad it went to a good home. Congrats on the purchase, that's a very nice ride!

Congratulations! Here is the BMW I owned when stationed at Lindsey AS and later at Ramstein AB, during 1970-1975. The first picture is up near the old military hotel above Berchtesgaden. The second is down in Switzerland before getting on a car train during a ski outing.

First welcome to b.fiddy.8. Hope you enjoy your tour in GE. I flown in and out of GE many times while in the AF and drove like a crazy on the autobahn.

And to 335dFan, loved the old 2002, was it a 72 year. I had one for a while but sold it, really miss it.

I know your area very well. My dad flew fighters out of Baden-Solingen.

No, it was a 1971 model year. I picked it up in October 1970. I put 96,000 miles on it in the 5 years I was there. I should have rebuilt the engine, the rear end, and fixed the rust on the fenders in summer 1975. That would have been cheaper than buying a new one at the time. But even a better idea would have been to buy a Euro-spec 2002ti instead.

I can't imagine what it would have been like to have something like our new X3 M40i on the autobahn in the 70s. Unreal.

So, I actually bought this back in August while I was stationed in Poland. But due to catching covid in late October and testing positive with covid for 60 plus days (yeah, that REALLY sucked), followed by another 14 days of quarantine once I moved to Germany ....I wasn’t able to take delivery until late December.

But come to think of it, this was was in Ramstein for a spell!

Much thanks! There are talks of further restrictions of speed on the autobahn. This is my second time being stationed in this area! Still awesome to be here...but nothing like in your day ; )

Oh man, that's brutal. COVID over here has definitely been an experience, but 60 days is rough.

I pick mine up in Würzburg 7 weeks, maybe we'll meet up on one of the last untamed stretches of the Autobahn. I'm down in Stuttgart.

Enjoy the new ride! Can't wait to see what you do with it!
