330E charging problems

Mine is a Dec 19 build and will not charge overnight to take advantage of low rate when using the app or when programmed in the car. It immediately charges all the time when plugged in,took it to dealer who gave me a new charging cable but no difference. Back at dealers(Bowker Preston) who have been good they now say it needs a new charging box but the gasket is on back order could be another week to arrive. I have a 21 plate Mini Cooper at the moment which is surprisingly good but are changing it today for an Enterprise hire car which will cost £100 plus a day I would think. Anyone else had this problem?

I must admit, the charging of this thing baffles me. Mine is set to charge in time slot of 00:00 to 08:00. Got home tonight at 20.30 and battery at 7%. Plugged car in for it to charge overnight and went indoors. I didn't choose to "Charge Now" on the screen. I checked app 10 mins later and car is charging.

I didn't believe the app (as its a bit hit and miss) so went out and checked and sure enough its charging up.

It then got to 12% and stopped charging, and app now reporting that its "Planned for ~00:00".

I also don't understand how the app reports approx ~14kWh's used to charge a12kWh battery that wasn't even at 0%.

And don't even get me started on the reported range...

Stupid question, but can I set the Max Current charge rate in the car to 16A and then charge off the 10A 3pin charger?

We charge off 3pin at home but plannjng to use 7kWh post at work. Surely don't need to keep changing it?Thanks

This is exactly how I have been running my 330e since October. Only issue I come across is the car random defaulting back to 6A so I am in the routine of checking it's set to 16a every time I finish my journey

If mine is set at 16amp it automatically reverts to 10amps when charging off a three pin plug. Got it back from Bowker BMW Preston whom have been excellent providing me with loan and hire cars and keeping me updated throughout. Car was fitted with new charging box and charge cable and latest update. It now charges on the timer correctly. Update has lap timer better graphics and google maps also Alexa compatibility. The only useful thing for me so far will be the maps!

I have a juicebox charger and I’m able to set my smart charging settings to copy my utility time of use agreement, e.g., no ev charging between 5 and 8 pm. I have not set any charging times on my 330e car or app and no charging has occurred within the restricted time set on my juicebox charger.

If you set it at 10 amps for the granny charger, what do you do at the public chargers? Do i need to increase to 16a. Sorry I’m new to hybrid driving.

I leave my car set to 16A. When connected to the granny charger it just pulls the 10A max.

Alternatively if you leave it set for max. 10A with the granny charger it will automatically charge at 16A at public charging points.

No matter what amperage you try to feed the battery with, it is set within the charging pack IN the car to 3.7Kw max.
It is also charging in DC - being fed via AC, so a small loss needs to be allowed there (converting AC->DC)
@ 230V (EU) that is 16.09A
@ 240V (Most of UK most of the time (most as in a % +/- is allowed for conformity across the EU) = 15.42A
It is really not clever to pull such a load from a standard UK 'ring main' 3 pin plug, hence we have a max fuse for them at 13A.
The 'Wall Box' charger @ 7Kw is merely a rather fancy timer, connected to the house fuseboard with cable that can easily handle 7Kw should it be needed.
So you can easily see why it changes from 16/10A
If it does switch to 10A when plugged to a 7Kw enabled wall box, I guess something needs to be checked.

UK nominal line voltage for single phase has been 230V ac @ 50Hz since 2003 (and that’s the harmonised EU standard also adopted in the UK.). It is allowed to vary between 216.2V & 253V (-6%/+10%).

And it’s nearly always at the upper end - I’ve never seen it below 245 around here. Higher voltage means less heating/loss in the cables for a given power draw, so it suits the power distribution companies to keep it at the upper end of the allowable scale.
