brake pads
my 320d has done 20000 km. only 40percent rear brake pads left while front has 80pc left. is it wearing off too rapidly? I drive hard, but I don't hold down the brakes downhill, generally use engine braking to slow down on a slope.

It's a common complaint. The rear pads wear very quickly. It seems this is caused by the ESC using the rear brakes to stop the loss of traction.
So it's not your braking style that's the cause, it's the ESC fighting against your spirited acceleration. |

thanks for your reply. can't really stop myself from pushing the car, why else own a 3 series? I do drive quite a lot in curving roads and push hard on corners, the esc must be in play quite a lot.

If they're weared enough to be replaced with less than 25.000 kmts, it could be passed as a warranty operation. Some dealers in Spain acknowledge this as a car defect, but others rejects it and blame 'aggresive drive behaviour'
In my case (320i), and coming from a manual VW Passat, with 320.000 kmts with original rear pad brakes, this is a car design defect. Its true that this g20 is a car that invites you to drive really realky fast, whispering you to push her to the limit on each corner, but with a hard-pushing driving style, less than 80.000 kmts for a rear pad is very worriyng (and expensive) |
