BMW i4 EV Officially Revealed in First Initial Look

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
First look at BMW i4:

Press Release

At the BMW Group's annual conference today, the BMW i4, which is in the starting blocks, was shown without its camouflage for the first time. "With its sporty design, best-in-class driving dynamics and zero-emission powertrain, the BMW i4 is a BMW in the best sense. With it, electric mobility has arrived at the core of the BMW brand," said Pieter Nota, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Customer, Brand and Sales.

The BMW i4 is a fully electric 4-door Gran Coupé scheduled for market launch in 2021, including a BMW M Performance model. The perfect balance of typical BMW sportiness, long-distance comfort and sustainable performance is unique in its segment. The BMW i4 model range will be available in different versions that allow ranges of up to 590 km (WLTP) and up to 300 miles (EPA). The BMW i4 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4 seconds with an output of up to 390 kW /530PS.

First images, illustrations and moving images can be found as attachments to this press release.

Full details of the BMW i4 will be released in the coming weeks.

Pretty lackluster reveal. No interior pictures, no specs or models given other than a goal range, no price, just a few exterior photos that pretty much look like 95% of the concept. BMW could have done a better job hyping this car up.

Looks so much better than the 4 Series! The look changes so much with a better designed bumper. Only thing left is to find out what the real world range is.

Yeah a very quiet reveal. I didn't even realize it was being revealed today until this week. If this was the future of BMW you'd think they'd want everyone to know.

I don't think this is the official release of the iX and i4. It's just something to reveal to investors and I'm sure there's going to be a bigger or more involved release like they do with all the other models.

Yeah, it seems like 590km (WLTP) / 300m (EPA) is for the M50 xDrive model. The lower tier rear wheel drive eDrive35 and eDrive40 seem to have a range of 450-500km (WLTP).

Which honestly doesn't make sense to me because the M50 has more power and 2 motors! So the range should be less but I guess it has a bigger battery?

I guess this is going to be what the 4er Gran Coupe will look like as well? Better than the 4 series coupe but still very very bland.

So what did they announce yesterday? Just how it looks? None of the websites/blogs have any details besides the max possible range! Was hoping to see some of the ADAS details (if any)

Overall I like how it looks. I don't like the hood line but that was to be expected.
But holy wheel gap batman! I wonder if that's necessary for comfort reasons given its (probably) high weight or for aerodynamical reasons to maximize range?
Given the fact that the M-suspension doesn't lower the hybrids I'm expecting the same for the full electric ones.

I noticed in multiple shots in the iX as well as the i4 videos yellow headlights. Until now those were reserved for the limited edition cars (M8 First Edition, M5 CS). Can we expect those yellow DRL in the normal car now? I think they look dope!

A reason why the Hofmeister Kink should not have been dropped. This window silhouette design is used a lot in the industry.

???

DRLs are white and the outer only turns yellow for signaling a turn.

I think what bothers me most is how the “nuggets” in the top half of the grille are black, but in the bottom they’re cerium grey

I like the looks of this overall (not a fan of the wheels). Hoping we get to see what the interior will look like soon enough as I believe that is what the upcoming LCI for the 3 series is supposed be getting next year...right?
