Remove seat back

Anyone know how to remove the plastic cover on the rear of the standard M-Sport front seat. I can see no obvious clips or clip covers so it may just pull off?

Let us know how you get on as I fitted one of these to the f31 and would be interested in doing the same if the backs come off as easy.

I bought this one Amazon, cheaper, next-day (Prime delivery) and fits well:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01F8NX6...hk_typ_imgToDp

Getting the back off is easy enough (thanks to hamera for the detailed instructions) but I strongly recommend trim-removal tools. You also need a Torx T20 screwdriver / bit. Top pic shows the bladder pulled down between the springs and the foam. The other pipes and connections are for the side-bolster bladders and the seat heating. It's on the piss by 90 degrees because of the way this forum handles iPhone pics, but you get the idea. Bottom pic shows a selection of trim removal tools.
The pump for the bladder (the same as a doctor's blood pressure gizmo) lies neatly down by the rest of the seat controls. When pumped up it works really well and probably inflates to a more noticeable degree than the factory lumbar in previous cars.

Ordered one for passenger side now.

Brilliant thanks. Did the clips come out OK or did the break?

Came out easily - they are very substantial and would be difficult to break. There are just a couple of more fragile clips that clip the fabric to the base but they’re easy with a trim tool.

Did the same today and I can say the seat is much better built than in the f31. Flip side is there was a lot of swearing from the back of an m340 this afternoon! Now I don't doubt its down to my cack handedness but my tips would be..

Definitely get trim tools as mentioned they really help.
Remove the fabric fastener from the bottom of the seat back so it comes all the way off. This makes it easier to go back on. This was the fiddliest bit for me trying to get the cover back on with fabric tucked in.

Needless to say I won't be adding one on the passenger side anytime soon but it will be worth it on a long trip.

Forgot to say thanks for the info above!

Yes. Just spent 2.5hrs and no issues. Seats are better than the f31 for support but it was worth the hassle.

I can confirm after a few weeks and 1500 miles that this little mod makes a *huge* difference to the seat comfort. All is not lost if you don’t have lumbar adjust or it’s been deleted.

Just fitted one of these into the passenger side. Thanks to all who posted the details - there is no way on gods earth I would have figured how to remove the back panel without a trip to screwfix for a wrecking bar!
works a treat

Question, how do you unclip the welts of the seat cover area at the bottom, step 1? My seat is covered with brown fabric at the bottom.

You just pull it. The fabric is attached to a flexible plastic strip that clips into a recess on the seat back bottom.
