Upgrade to Driver Assistant Professional?

Has anyone upgraded from Driver Assistant to Driver Assistant Professional? I read that this can be done but I can't find any information on it.

Anything is possible if you throw enough money at it. You will need (at least) new ACC sensor incl ECU, 4x new radar sensors (each corner of vehicle), new SAS ECU. Depending on prior options: DSC block incl ECU, KAFAS camera incl ECU and new windshield.

If you currently have ACC (= you won't have to buy DSC) and Driving Assistant (= you won't have to buy KAFAS), and buy all other parts used you will be looking at 2-3k in parts. Labour will be expensive as basically no one is offering this retrofit.

Wow, I thought it was as easy as purchasing an upgrade. I don't know what all acronyms means. I do have DA, don't have ACC, but I have seen ACC coded in.

I'm not saying it's impossible and there are multiple people who have done this before. I gave you an overview already which parts you need. You just shouldn't think this will be easy or cheap. As I said before if you get used parts you are looking at 3-4k at least (in your case with new DSC), don't even bother getting new parts.

This retrofit is hard to do and if you don't have a source for cheap used parts and are able to fit it yourself (= no labor cost), it will be easier and cheaper to just sell your car and get another one with DAP.

You also gotta have some special tools/ software so that the system gets calibrated correctly. So even if you could install the modules yourself at some point you'll need to have that calibration done and good luck finding a dealer or independent shop willing to do that.

Edit: I guess it's about all the abbreveations. To re-write my answer for everyone not super into the technical stuff:

You will need the long distance radar sensor used for Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) incl it's electric control unit (ECU). If you currently have ACC you cannot re-use the sensor, ACC uses a mid-range radar while DAP uses a long-range radar. In each corner of the car there are short distance radar sensors, the rear ones similar to the ones used for the blindspot monitoring assistant. The ones in the front are for improved detection of cars/obstacles, it is not possible to re-use the ones in the back if you happen to have the Driving Assistant (DA). Additionally, the Driving Assistant Professional (or Plus) DAP uses the cameras mounted in the windshield, it's the HIGH model with three cameras (and beneath it the rain sensor). It's called Camera based Drivers Assistance System, in German Kamerabasierte Fahrassistenzsysteme, KAFAS. It has a different mount than the other version, that's why you also need a different windshield if you retrofit that part. If you have ACC (and DAP includes the ACC) the car has a different DSC block than without ACC, in order to brake the car. DSC is BMWs term for ESC and stands for Dynamic Stability Control. Lastly, there is the SAS module (Sonderausstattungssystem) which is responsible for all drivers assistance system. You will need to change that one as well when retrofitting DAP.

Edit: Just found out the DSC is the same.

Pro requires equipment that, I believe, your vehicle does not have.

It's not a digital upgrade.

no, but if you don't know how to get them by yourself this retrofit is not for you anyways.

I will do this at the car of my wife this year. Most of the things Flamingi wrote is correct so it isnt only a small retrofit. But it can be done.

If i have the time i will wrote a short instruction.
