2011 N63 Drivetrain Malfunction (New Engine)
I had my mechanic drop in a replacement N63 last year when mine decided to explode. Things ran nicely(ish) for a while, but now I've noticed an odd pattern of drivetrain malfunctions.
Every time I take the car out, I get the error and the vehicle starts shaking. I turn it off, turn it back on, and it drives fine. Then for the next few minutes if I push it into high rev, it'll throw the error again. If I don't, it won't come back for the rest of the day. Even getting back in the car to head home, it doesn't have an issue. I took it on a road trip (doing the typical re-start ritual as I left), drove perfectly for 500 miles, then didn't have a problem heading back home, even after letting it sit for a few days. It makes no sense. I scanned the codes and it reported a misfire on 5 and 6. To fix this, I replaced all of my spark plugs and coils. The two misfiring cylinders were covered in soot, so my guess is that there's something causing the computer to run the engine rich on startup. I reset the transmission adaptation as well. I started the it back up and still had the exact same problem. Any ideas? I'm thinking I'll dig out my old MAF sensor and swap it out. If that doesn't help, I'll swap out the upstream O2 sensor on the drivers side. The only other thing I can think of is that the car was running a Dinan tune when I got it. It may not be playing nicely with the replacement engine (from a 750Li). If that's the case, I'll dig out my laptop and reset the tune to stock. I think it may only be a problem with the startup tune. Any help would be appreciated. I'll send some beer money to anyone who solves this with me. |

How are the injectors?
I had misfires and it turned out that I had the series 9 injectors and a couple had failed. Swapped them all out for new series 12 injectors and no issues other than my wallet for all 8 |
