CarPlay/AA Restoration Update - Option Code 6P1
** UPDATE 18/05/2022 - Carplay and Android Auto now available and confirmed working! **
FAQs: 1) What's the issue ? New Vehicles in Europe Produced from week 1 2022 have a slightly different version of the iDrive headunit. The software that enables Wifi/Carplay/Android Auto in this hardware revision was not ready in time, so instead of delaying the builds, BMW temporarily disabled the following features:
2) Is my car affected ? If it was built between January and April 2022, it is likely. You will have a 6P1 option code on your order sheet / VIN lookup. You can also check the recall lookup tool: https://www.bmw.ie/en/topics/owners/...l#recallLookup 3) What software does my car need to be running ? Wifi was re-activated as part of the 22-03-550 istep update. You need to be running this or newer. 4) When is the software available to correct this ? The software to re-enable Wifi is available now at dealerships. If you ring them you should be able to book an appointment to have it installed. If you can't visit a dealership, a remote software upgrade is being deployed on the 28th May 2022. For Android Auto/Carplay, this feature will be available on all cars from the 19th May 2022. You will notice a new service called "Smartphone Integration". On or after this date, just go to Apps, option click and do a "Update apps and services". Then turn off your car and come back to it 30 minutes later, and it should be activated. Last edited by ramparts; 05-18-2022 at 08:51 AM.. |

Hello David, it is very interesting, I'll visit my dealer next week to install the latest version that will fix 6p1, according to BMW and the dealer, I should regain the missing functions... I'll post here the results.

There is hope then! Fingers crossed for good news. I’ll be straight onto my dealership for the update if it works.

Update from BMW:
I'm afraid this isn't the software version that will restore these features, as the software that will activate these features is still currently being developed by BMW urgently. So you'll be having a wasted trip to the dealer next week I think! Might be worth holding off |

As a software engineer, I can tell you I completely understand the delay.
The code is the quickest part of the process, it's all the scoping/planning before and QA release process afterward that slows things down ! |

Any step by step guide on taking the dealership through what they need to do appreciated. (If these codes work) ideally I can have mine updated while I’m there next week. |

Hi, I will be a new owner of my first BMW, curious what's the "original" code for having the fully functional Apple CarPlay support without doing a firmware upgrade at a dealer?
Thanks in advance! |

So I picked up my g21 last week (rolled out the factory end of March) and no Android Auto but I do get notifications on my phone that a wifi of the car can be configured. Funnily enough, I did not opt-in for such option so it's weird that my car does seem to "broadcast" something that my phone is picking up.. hmm
Looking forward for the update that includes AA.. I realized the GPS from BMW is not very reliable sadly enough. I live in an area where there are several construction sites and plenty of detours, none of which seems to be logged in their GPS software but all of which is present in Google Maps :-(

Same here:
30e collected last weekend and no CarPlay. The sales guy said BMW keeps delaying the feature because it requires additional code development to make iDrive7 compatible with some of the components they had to reuse to face the chip shortage. What worries me more is that he said that a month or two ago, this post delivery update was a sure thing and now it’s a maybe as they’re shifting focus to iDrive8. I was left with a may or may not happen kind of answer. According to the dealer, they didn’t even start developing those changes and the earliest release would be July if it doesn’t get further delayed or even canceled. I hope it gets sorted as I was used to have it on my previous old car. |
