Dealer gave me wrong Key Card (CC style)

Dealer mixed up my Key Card (the digital key credit card) with another car and they're not sure which one.
So now I have a key card that's tagged to another car.
They're working on ordering me a replacement at no cost but im wondering if there's a way to "reset" this key card so I can pair it with my car?

Thanks!

If there's any way to do that it seems like something the dealer would be capable of?

Agreed but how many times have we been told by dealers that x, y, or z *couldn't* be done just because they don't know? 😅

Oh yeah absolutely. Just that in my experience those people are also very stubborn and/or lazy so you don’t get very far trying to argue with them. I figure if they’ve already decided they need to order a new card they’re probably going to just do that no matter what you tell them.

FWIW I think the card key is definitely nice to have but I’d only use it for a valet or loaning the car to someone. For personal use you can set up the digital key on your phone which works exactly the same way just without having to carry anything extra around. You don’t need the key card for that.

Also you can share and revoke permissions with a virtual key which is probably more secure than a physical card and you don't need to get anything back. I suppose the physical card is pretty much redundant

Oh I totally agree and I've already setup my iPhone and Apple Watch but I want the card to give to my wife so she has it in her wallet if she ever needs to drive the car and doesn't have her phone on her or whatever might happen.

I believe you can go to a store where they have key copy scanning machines some of them also copy RF ID cards and NFC cards and my thoughts are can it copy the code from my phone onto a physical little key fob because the cost is under 20 bucks. I was able to copy my BMW NFC Card to a little key fob and it works just fine. But I didn't try it from the phone to a key fob.

Interesting! I think the phone has a different level of encryption but that's good to know

It's encrypted at rest not active so I'm sure that on the key card machine when it says to read the card you hold your phone up to it it'll probably activate and then see if it works. I'll try it next time I'm out and I'll take some pictures too! I mean I can invest 30 bucks and a read or writer for home but I'm too lazy at this point for that.

Is this the fob itself + the reader and writer?

They just show that you buy the fob through the reader writer kiosk.
