I was able to code in the M240i cluster that should have been stock on the M240 with BimmerCode.
For those who want to do it, use a wireless/Bluetooth OBD2 adaptor and connect it with BimmerCode. Though BimmerCode does not support the G42 just yet, you can choose 3-Series/M3 and it'll give you some capability to code. Under Instrument Cluster, you should be able to find coding for the display. You can do other ones as well. I did the M performance cluster up to 200mph (160mph is also an option). Has the M240i logo up top.

My guess is that when the coding reset the ECU, it added the logo and correct font the car is supposed to come with. Almost as if the car was "hiding" it. Coding was there, but not active. Odd...

G20. It's the closest to what the G42 has and has sort of the same DME as the M240i. So far, I've coded the M Performance Cluster (200mph), M start-up logo, beginning message delete, and the Bowers & Wilkins upgrade for the Harmon Kardon Surround Sound System (highly recommend! Changes the sound so much. "On Stage" is the best sounding in my opinion). The sound upgrade is only for those who have the Harmon Kardon though, not the Hi-Fi.
Once I find out more stuff I will put it in this thread. I know you can also do start-up in sport mode and video-in-motion but I haven't done those yet.

Not sure how yours showed M240 after your changes. I selected and coded each different cluster layout and all of the M and M Performance just show ///M at the top.

I'm fine with it as I selected the M layout, not the M Performance as I think the M layout is easier to read and more pleasing to the eyes.

Just odd that your somehow popped up M240i

I guess it is odd. I tried doing the M cluster and, even though it looked awesome, it messed up my HUD, service dates, and you couldn't see the gears you were in if you were in manual. So I went back to the M Performance one. Almost freaked me out

And as for the M240i logo, the thing is the car has it coded into the car. It's there in the cars coding its just hidden because the car came from the factory with the "standard" layout. When you switch from "standard" to "M Performance (200mph)", it gives you the M240i logo. Something was wrong with the factory coding of the car. They gave it the M240i logo but didn't give it the M Performance cluster. That's why it doesn't; pop up.

Note: If you want the M240i logo -- When I switched from the M cluster to M Performance, It took the logo away. So to get it you gotta go to "standard" first and then "M Performance"

Ruh roh. That’s not cool. I didn’t look at any of that stuff after making the change to the M layout. That really sucks as it’s so much cleaner looking.

No clue with the designers were thinking having a tiny orange needle over a lighter orange background.

I saw a post recently where the M cluster and M240 logo popped up after a hard wired software update. Perhaps it is coming for all cars via OTA at some point.

I've changed the layout numerous times, reverting to backups, etc and no soup.

Oh well, not a big deal to me.

Are you guys that are trying to get the “240” logo doing both the cluster layout and the logo option below that?? I know it says bottom right in the description, but that is for a G20.

Just the cluster layout. Doesn't give the option to change the "description." That would be for the previous-gen instrument clusters in the F chassis.

When I changed the cluster to the "M" layout, it caused a bunch of errors in my services tab in my iDrive as well as messed up my hud. I changed it back to the "M Performance up to 200 mph" because there are no errors. It does change the hud, but you only see your mph and traffic sign recognition. Nothing else.

And for the Thor WiFi OBD connector, no clue. You can try it. I use the Veepeak OBD2 connector. Works no matter what BMW model you have. It will always connect to BimmerLink or BimmerCode.

I just coded my cluster from standard directly to M performance 160 and the M240i logo appeared as well. Thanks OP!

For those of you that have coded the cluster to M Performance and DONT have the M240i logo showing here is how I fixed it:

Go to Instrument Cluster
Click on Backups
Choose the oldest backup and code it (BimmerCode takes backups prior to making any changes)
Exit the Instrument Cluster and then go back in
For Layout choose either of the M performance options and code
You should now have the m240i logo!

My theory is that those of us that choose a layout that was not one of the M performance one’s right off the bat we “lost the ability” for the logo to show up. Once we restore our initial backup and then choose M Performance we get the m240 logo!

Just as an update - The Thor WiFi OBD does not work with BimmerCode and the G42. I have a vlinker coming - It was on the list as compatible with the G20 so we'll see what happens.

EDIT: VLinker worked great. M240i is now showing on the cluster, auto start/stop has been disabled, and Bower and Wilkins added to the sound profile. Have to figure out what's next.

So this is a new car (Believe it or not that arrived at the dealer on Friday, which I will possibly buy over my PB on order. So let's call it 3 months since the build and the latest ID7 update.

It seems to have the latest update. If I buy the car I will tell you the OS version at the weekend.
