Have these shifting lights always been a thing? I swear I have never seen these before. I have owned the car for a year. 2021 330i. Thanks

Yeah, I haven’t noticed that in my ‘21 340. What drive mode are you in? I get something similar in the HUD when I’m sport mode, but not in the actual cluster like that.

I'm in sports plus mode that I codded in. Apparently, people said this was a software update.

Ahh, ok. I got my car in March of 2021 and am still on 7/20. I’ve never gotten an update to install.

Yeah, BMW could use some work on their OTA software update features. I've only gotten one map update as well the entire time I've owned the car. Seems to be really inconsistent.

My car has that issue. It never got an update. Only update I had done was done by the dealership where they updated it to 07/21.

I've had 2 OTAs since purchasing the car in July 2020. I've asked my service team here at work if the could force the updates on my car was told no. I just feel they didn't want to do it.

I called the customer care number a long time ago regarding the no update issue. The lady on the line tried everything she could and even had a manager help me. They said they were pushing out updates for my car and my car should be receiving it at that instant but nope. Didn't work. In the end they said take the car to the dealer and ask them to update and that they'll talk to the dealer regarding my issue. Dealer did the update but my car still hasn't gotten a remote update after that. Taking it in tomorrow for the SIB mentioned a few posts above. Let's see what happens.

Please keep us in the loop. I’m in a similar boat as you, in that I’ve never gotten an update in the almost year and 1/2 I’ve owned the car.

You may very well need to take it in. I have had OTAs in the past but as of late I'd noticed I wasn't receiving one, so I took it in and they found that the car was determining the signal quality too low to effect the update.

I also recently had an issue affecting all the assistance systems which transpired to be a coding issue (on BMW's end) and a single value needed changing. This was also blocking updates for that specific ECU.

Thank you. Interesting you mention signal quality. I live in a high rise building and our parking garage is a concrete bunker. Wonder if that could have something to do with it?

I'm on 11/2021.61 here.

Was told there is no current updates by my shop foreman. I work for a BMW center.

It's very possible - when they checked my car, there was a fault code relating to the TCB; essentially saying the signal strength wasn't high enough. My reading was something like 18 and the "poor" band stopped at 22 (higher being better). Can't recall the details honestly but they did acknowledge it and said to try keep within a good reception area for a couple days if possible.

They also suggested changing the radio to one of the larger national carriers like BBC R1 - supposedly it helps even while it's DAB because the antenna gain needed to pick the signal up is reduced, so the TCB thinks it's in a higher reception area? Still not too sure on that one and they did sound just as confused about it as me lol.

I couldn't test whether it made a change though because they'd also upgraded me to the latest ver as part of the testing anyway (and due to another unrelated fault recently I'm now on the 03/2022 spec) so we'll see how that goes...

Not yet. They said they needed the car for a bit when I took it in for service and I had something unexpected pop up. So just got an oil change done. Will be taking it back in this coming week. I'll let you know how it goes.

Edit -

Dropped my car off today. Let's see what happens.

Just had my car in for a parking brake malfunction which ended up being the shifter assembly that was having issues. Replaced the shifter assembly and car was programmed to 3/2022. Which means I have to go and recode everything. Also mine does not have the shifting lights...

I got my car back today. They did a scope and found out that it was "tuned". Mechanic sent me a video showing the computer said it was autodetected.

Since they're good guys, they didn't code my car because they said that coding the car would mean my DME would get locked and I wouldn't be able to tune it. And I got opinions from a few other friends who said it was better to leave it as is. So yeah. I didn't get the updates installed though they said if I wanted, they could do it but would need the car for like 3-4 hours.

Mine is tuned and has coding done. Which it wasn't bricked when they programmed the shifter assembly at the time of replacement. All I had to do is go back in and recode everything. The car was updated to 03/2022 and now I've been getting a bunch of back log OTA updates for the Nav.

That's not the code I was talking about. When they install updates, it is considered "coding". Atleast, that's what they said. Not the coding I did using bimmercode. And they thought my car had a tune and didn't update it because that would overwrite any tune present and lock my DME. They didn't know that it wasn't tuned and DME was locked anyway.
And the update isn't for the navigation maps. I've gotten all map updates properly. I just have never gotten any Remote Software Updates.
