'23 m340i Adaptive Suspension Question

Hey all, I just took delivery on a new LCI m340i (brooklyn grey/cognac sensatec). The adaptive M suspension was supposed to be included on the build, as indicated on the factory order and build sheet at the dealership. However, there is no "adaptive" button below the "Eco Pro" button on the center console, nor is there any option included anywhere in the iDrive settings for anything adaptive. I contacted the dealership after driving away and noticing this (Bob Smith BMW in Calabasas, CA), and my sales guy there is insisting that for the 3 series, one doesn't get an adaptive button, but with the adaptive suspension option, all the regular driving modes are just different.

I'm fairly certain this is incorrect (there's an adaptive button for the non-LCI '22 models), and that the option was just never included on my build. Not the end of the world, but I'd like to not have to pay for it if the option was never included.

Can anyone here confirm this suspicion? Anyone have pictures that I can use to prove to this guy that the option wasn't included? Or am I the one that's wrong, and that's how the adaptive suspension works for the LCI?

Thanks in advance,
Jordan

I also just took delivery, noticed the same thing and got the same response from the "genius" at the dealership - certainly seems to be a pretty significant change from prior years - something BMW should be proactive about discussing

There is no adaptive button in the lci and i believe there is no adaptive mode , you can select diferent modes and suspension acts accordingly in sport , comfort , eco.
Check bmw decoder based on the Vin if you have the M adaptive suspension,
I dont own the Lci and not 100% sure there is no adaptive mode, but button is removed , i tried the car with adaptive susp and no adaptive button was present

Besides no 'Adaptive' button, the LCI User Manual doesn't mention Adaptive Mode. Does look as if it is dropped from the Adaptive M suspension.

So if there’s no adaptive button does the adaptive suspension even work when switching between the modes? i added the adaptive M option for my
build arriving soon

Yes, the suspension modes are still selectable, and are adaptive. Just lacking the Adaptive mode 'feature' included in the G2x models at launch.

Interesting. This has been helpful, thanks all. So what would people guess is the difference in feeling between the adaptive and normal suspension setup for an m340 at this point?

Keep in mind passive is a fixed setting, whereas Adaptive gives the choice of base modes, and is still continuously adaptive to driving conditions and demands.

First, I am assuming you have the window sticker that came with the vehicle. Since the M Adaptive Suspension is an option it should be listed on the window sticker as such.

Second, I have a 2022 X5 base which is supposed to have Electronic Damper Control which is included with the M Adaptive on the 3 series. Disregard that I am not sure how well it works on the X5, the adaptive button was removed from the X5 two years ago and the EDC is still allegedly there. I learned on the forum that if you use voice control you can enable Adaptive Mode on the X5. If I tell it to "turn on Adaptive Mode" or "Enable Adaptive Mode" it does show Adaptive Mode on the dash as active. Whether anything actually changes as to how the vehicle drives is another question entirely but I can enable Adaptive Mode from the Idrive voice control. See if that works and report back.

Might be easiest to see if you can Co figure the suspension firmness in the sport individual setting. If it has adaptive dampers then in sport individual you should be able to select either sport or comfort for the dampness setting. If you don't have adaptive dampers then the option isn't there.

Simplest confirmation for the adaptive suspension physically being there, is to swing the steering to full lock and take a look at the front strut. Look for the proportional valve on the strut body with wire attached.

Just to add a little here - Adaptive Drive Mode (ADM) and Adaptive dampers are two different things. It appears ADM was removed in LCI. I was just at the dealership today and noticed one on the dealer lot without it — even though window sticker has Adaptive dampers listed.

Yep, window sticker confirms Adaptive M Suspension option. I tried to use the BMW Voice Assist to "enable adaptive mode," and she replied that my vehicle is not equipped with that option. Thanks for the tip though, worth a try!

Just checked, and I am able to adjust the dampers for sport individual. So is this the only thing one can do with this option? Adjust the dampers for individual driving modes? Is there anything active going on in the standard comfort, sport and eco pro modes?

Yes, adaptive suspension is active in all modes. 'Individual' simply allows you to mix some of the feature settings.

Adaptive Mode was one specific setting, within the adaptive setup.

I sense from reading forums, that not many used Adaptive Mode. Either didn't understand what it was doing or prefer a Comfort or Sport mode.

Yes. I resemble that remark. My 2022 M340xi has the adaptive mode button. Adaptive mode sounds cool- it's supposed to adapt to road/driving conditions. At first I used it frequently, but over time came to feel the car was more responsive in comfort, and certainly sport when I really want to move.

Funny you should say this. I haven't noticed a difference in throttle or steering response in Adaptive over Comfort mode, but I think I have noticed slightly firmer damping when cornering in Adaptive. Maybe because I use my turn signals ?- (turn signals is one of the inputs to Adaptive mode prediction).

Here is a rare BMW video that shows the adaptive mode inputs/parameters for the G11 - the 2016 - 2022 7 series. It doesn't discuss how those parameters are used and how each affects the resultant drive. I haven't seen any official BMW content that does.
