M440.
It´s not possible to code the exhaust to be always open without a tune of your engine ECU.
You can only open it with Bimmerlink and it stays open until you stop the engine.
The only way to control the valve are boxes that open the valve at every startup of the engine.
Or you could just do the golf tee mode and drive around with the valve always opened.

Are you saying even though I will select open on valves, car will close them when I shut the engine off, but it will again reopen them on a next start up?

The valve needs to be opened with Bimmerlink at every startup.

Oh so basically unplugging the valves connection so it will just stay open always.
I like this idea lol. I think I might just do it.
Do you know if I have to unplug it while car is running in sport mode when flaps are open, or if I unplug it while it is off on the start up it will open the flap?

I'm not certain on current exhaust, but I don't think it matters.

Sorry, like already mentioned it´s the golf tee mod.

Again, there are three options for the G20.
1. Bimmerlink: You need to connect after every engine start and manually open the valve in the app.
2. Golf tee mod: You need to find the open position of the valve and then remove the plug. I´m not sure if it´s work but you could try to start the engine, stay in park and switch to Sport. Heard this would open the valve.
3. Exhaust Valve Controller: Some shops offer a box that can be hooked to the OBD port or directly wired at the BDC to control the valve. This gives you freedom over the valve and you could close it when needed.
4. Engine tune with valve control: Some engine tunes like MHD offer options like the valve staying open in Sport+.

The valve will be closed when the engine is stopped.
External controls like Bimmerlink or Exhaust Valve Controllers can only change the valve when standing still.
Only methods like the engine tune from MHD can control the valve while driving.
BMW changed something in the behavior and what can trigger the valve to change position.

Sorry for the confusion.

You could just get a good axle back exhaust and never worry about this. Always open

This works on my 2020 340. You do have to do it every time you start you car. If you make it one of you favorites, it's two clicks.

I have down pipe, and getting AA or Dinan is a bit too loud for my liking. I think I will go down MPE route.

Will check this out. Thank you

On the other note, does anyone know, if I turn off engine sound in the cabin will that actually temper with exhaust or that is just sound that is coming from speakers?

I have turned off ASD (speaker noise) with Bimmer Code in my M440. Engine Sound settings in the menu now effects (very obviously) the exhaust sound (and flap). (It always closes the flap for a short warm up period after a cold start < minute.)

Since Bimmerlink you have to open the flaps every time you turn on the engine. Does anyone know if the Foxwell scan tool will just leave the flaps open all the time?

I coded and my flaps always open. I dont need to open them every time. The only time one of them is closed is when engine is cold and it is trying to warm up.

@totalone, do your M440 have 2 flaps? I only see one, in the right hand side,
exhaust on my 2021 M440. Or do you have an aftermarket?

There is always only one. I have only one as well. It will stay closed on warmups, once temp is high enough second one opens up and never closes after that.

I have m440gc 2022

On my 2020 G21, I've coded the following to give you the Engine Sound menu. I've set mine to always Sport which opens the valve every time you start the engine. Not sure if this is different for M440i / newer builds?

HU_MGU
- CAFD_00003E52
- DISPLAY_MENU_CONFIGURATION_ENGINE_SOUND - Ausgelesen = enabled
- DISPLAY_CONFIGURABILITY_ENGINE_SOUND - Ausgelesen = aktiv
