The fact that Matt got 0-60 in 3.8s in wet, cold weather is astonishing.

Didn’t they review the M340i a while ago?

This was from a couple months ago.

Slow news day I guess.

Yes, this is an old review. However, since we are talking about it I have to say how disappointed I am by the limited options BMW gave us in the US compared to Europe. There are many more exterior paint options and interior options in the European models. I would make one of those my next car if we could get them here. Instead they just give us the most vanilla offerings possible.

And one other thing, why does BMW make you get a larger vehicle to get better and extended leather? I don’t need the size of a 5 series or X5, but those interiors are SO much better. Charge $3k for nice extended leather in a 3 series and I’d get it.

By ''a while ago'' I meant years ago. The pre-LCI Touring, I do understand your frustation though, I can relate to that.

I would buy this over the G80 M3 for a daily driver.

buckybadger ,

I did and have absolutely no regrets-- best melding of a daily driver & occasionall track car I've seen!!

I must admit that mine is a 2020, so when I ordered, didn't have limitations that subsequent model years had. 🙂

Not quite perfect IMO, missing a 3rd pedal.

Agreed! That said your remark goes for the X5 as well despite the fact that it's built in the US, which is mind-blowing to me. There are many options available in Europe (where I'm from) that are not in the US (where I live). To be fair the price point is also MUCH lower here in the US than in my country of origin - without even taking into account the outrageous $53k green tax (yes you read that right) - so I can't really complain about it 😋

$53k!!? Do does the government then take that money and put solar power on a couple people’s homes for free or just put it in their coffers? I’m guessing the latter.

I assume since the 3 series is made in Mexico and no other models with those other paint options and upgraded interiors are made there as well it is a cost-cutting measure by BMW. Sucks.

If it had a 6mt option it would be my next car. There is a HUGE void right now in what I am sure is not a profitable market: practical performance manuals under $60k. M2 priced how I want it is pushing 70k and not as practical as sedan; m3 easily pushing 80k even with minimal options; Supra not practical; 400z...same, and its a nissan; Type r/GR corolla (i think) is underpowered + you'll have to pay a ADM which is criminal. if they made a m340i RWD + manual they would at least sell 1 i know for sure.

It would be two of us getting that M340i RWD MT...such an inexistent market. CT4 BW closest you can get? Even though rear seats are cramped...

I was going to include that in my list...but I am an elder millennial. My perception of Caddy is...not great. All I see is bloated woody station wagon from the 90s. No offense to anyone.

Good grief, that "leg" holding the screen to the dashboard is so awkward and out of place.

Sad but true. I can understand why though. Can’t think of many people I know in this segment who want to row their own gears. Cars have gotten bigger too which sort of takes away some of the pleasure of having a nimble small luxury car with a manual (thus the M2).

Golf R 6MT is on my short list for a new daily.

The M340i in 6MT would be even better. I may go used with an older 335/340i or possibly F80 6MT.

There is something special about a 4 door vehicle with a manual.

It's supposed to be what's called a "bonus/malus" system with heavy taxes ("malus") for those like me who still want to enjoy a proper engine under the hood and incentives ("bonus") for those who rather drive a hairdryer believing they're saving the planet. The government pays bonus with the money generated by malus. At least that's the official version 😂
