Lightbulb 2025 3 Series is getting TU2 engines. Starts production 7/2024

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
More details on the G20 refresh for MY2025 (from model info thread).

US customers looking to buy this car in 2024 would be well advised to wait for the model year change.

Newest info:
  • MY2025 G20 starting production in 07/24 is getting TÜ2 engines in the US and SK like G22/G23 LCI.

Previously posted info:
  • In production until 02/27 (G20)
  • No fully electric models
  • 07/24: Another refresh. I don't think BMW will call it "LCI2" but the changes will be noticeable. The interior will get new materials, trims, glass knobs, Iconic Glow kidneys will become available as an option, there will be new wheels. US and Korea will get B48 and B58 TÜ engines (on paper, there will be 7hp bumps for 320i and 330i, and 7hp loss for M340i).
  • 11/25: In EU, all diesel engines will be brought to EU7 compliance.

Just curious cause I've never known, how do you find info like this? Do they announce anything on the internet and such? Thanks!

AFAIK it should be technical revision 2 (technische Überarbeitung in German), not a new engine but updated.

A loss on paper but TU2 probably bringing other improvements. Would be surprised if it’s a general “downgrade” even if it’s only 7HP.

B58 looks like an all-time engine so will be interesting to see what this update brings.

I would even just for the updated interior bits. You would gain much more for a small price bump on a chassis that would be very aged.

It’s doubtful that this HP reduction will be detected by the driver in a measurable manner.

If the interior looks like the new G60 5er then I’m all in.

Update for emissions compliance. Could be adding port fuel injection to widen operation map.

Kinda weird that there are questions about the engine that has been in use in X5/X6/X7 long enough for someone to do a review.

i thought going away from port injection to direct injection was to improve fuel economy and hence emissions ...

i believe TU2 will be dual port and direct injected

maybe they've figured out something nobody else knows ...

Some areas of engine load/speed cycle are better served with PFI vs DI. PDI is not new - Lexus/Toyota, vw/audi, Kia/Hyundai?, ford and gm use it.

Come on, people, can't you google? No need to "believe", the engine is in wide use, a lot is known about it.

Was going to say something similar. There have been articles and videos for over a year now. For example: https://www.bmwblog.com/2022/04/12/bmw-b58-s68-engines/
