Software Update??

Driving on the highway yesterday and the intrument panel suddenly went black. Came back on within a few seconds but the iDrive system displayed that something was not operative (I forgot what I clicked off it really quickly). After it came back on the instrument panel’s layout has been different. The highlighted battery thing was not there before. Was this some sort of software update?

The right hand side can show show either "power" (as in your picture) or engine RPM. The default setting is to change according to drive mode and you can set it in iDrive menu to always display RPM (at least in both comfort and sport modes, I don't use eco pro). So my conclusion would be that after the SW glitch it reverted to comfort mode default.
