Removing side mirror cap without popping out the mirror

Hi all.

I understand there’s two ways to go about removing the mirror cap on the the G20 and a video by Kies doing it by pulling the mirror glass out. Apparently the mirror doesn’t need to be pulled out if not replacing the black support frame.

Is it easier to remove the cap this way, or can it just as easily be removed by disengaging the two clips behind the mirror and pulling the cap off.

I need to replace the right side mirror cap and want to do it whatever way to avoid scratching or breaking anything. Unfortunately BMW does not have instructions on this.

Thank you.

It's actually far easier/quicker and less likely to break the cover clips if you just push on the top of the mirror glass until it's all the way up and then pry the bottom out. It pops out pretty easily and then you can gain access to the clips. I just did this a couple weeks or so ago to my daughter's to put black M style mirror caps on.

FYI ... that's the official way to do it by BMW.

Dude, you are awesome. Is this specifically for G20?

Quick question: Did you remove the connections after popping the mirror out to access the clips or just held onto it?

I just left the mirror glass hang with the wires. There's really no reason to remove the wiring. Just be mindful of if scratching the paint if it's swinging around. Also, if I recall correctly, the mirror base has some slots in it for the cap so line those up as you slide it back into place. It's not obvious unless you're looking for them. Good luck.

you can actually tilt the mirror using controller to very outside or inside which will create enough space to shove your finger behind the mirror.
That you wouldn't need any tool to pop the mirror out. if you are fingers are too big.. you can use that space for tool for better contact.

Thank you! My understanding is that that the blinker is attached to the cap by a few screws and needs to be swapped after the cap is removed.

I installed carbon mirror caps and didn’t remove the glass. I just pointed the glass all the way down and I was able to get a trim tool in to help free the clips. It was pretty easy. Be super careful putting the cap back in and making sure the clips align, else you may break them when pushing the cap on.

Thank you, sir! The space looks really tight even with the glass pointed down all the way to get to the clips without potentially hitting the piano black trim above so I may have ti pop the mirror out.
