Active autowerke Catted Downpipe without a tune

I'm thinking about getting their catted downpipe for my m340 and was wondering if I can get it without getting a tune and if that would cause any problems. I will get a tune eventually but not immediately.

Nope, no problems at all. I ran AA Catted stock just fine before finally getting a tune and going catless.

Awesome, Thank you! I'm planning on taking my car into active autowerke this week to get that installed and I wasn't sure about it. I'm also on the fence on whether or not I should just have them install it or install it myself. I'm not a mechanic but I've seen a couple videos on youtube and the install seems pretty straight forward. I have all the tools I would possibly need in my garage but I'm assuming getting it done with them might be better if there's anything that could ever go wrong with it in the future.

Why made you decide to go catless?

It was more of a why not, no emissions check here in Hawaii, and with the tune, I can delete the CEL permanently. So, from my point of view, I can get even better sound and a little more power for cheap. AA catted has pretty good resale value; I sold mine on these forums for like 900.

You will love the sound of AA, though. Here is a clip of mine paired with MPE. Honestly, though, if you are for sure going to get a tune, I would just wait and go catless if you don't have to worry about emissions.

Oh okay, yeah I see your point. Yours sounded really good. I'm not sure if I would want it much louder than that but it would probably cost me less in the long run to do what you're saying. I'm going to look into what other downpipes I could get.

+1 for AA; it's our most popular catted downpipe.

zero issues without a tune, no check engine light, and a noticeable improvement over stock

I’ve been running it since March without a tune. It’s been perfect, nice sound and performance increase. I draggy’d a 11.89 pass with it on factory tuning. I installed it with a friend and it wasn’t bad. It took 1.5hrs. But if a shop will only charge 2 hrs it’s worth it just to get it done. I would order a new v-band clamp though. It makes the re-install easier.

Currently running an AA catted downpipe with a racechip. (540i)
No CEL so far.
Loving the sound, seems like a good balance of that extra loudness without being too obnoxious, say for long drives.

Post car warranty will be moving to stage 2.

What he said- just do it. I paid to have mine installed, and to me, it was worth it. About $168. Already had the MPE, sounds so much better.

Just ordered today with Mike@x-ph.com. He gave me a great deal! I Also got a CTS intake to go with it. I probably should of also got a charge pipe but I'll probably order that once I make a decision on an exhaust system. I'm going to install it myself though. I enjoy doing the work and it really doesn't seem to be a difficult install. I've done way harder jobs on my old 6.0 F250 lol.

Super excited to see the outcome and power difference on just a stock tune and I'll definitely get a tune done after a couple more mods get done.

Had mine on for just over 2 years. No issues. Install was fairly easy too. Downpipe will come with a new gasket pre-installed. Just work your way back from the turbo and you’ll be golden. Enjoy!

AA catted down pipe here paired with a MPE and not one issue , your catted downpipe will come with break in procedure, the instructions will help reduce the chances of getting a cel.

Here is screen shot of the break in instructions , this will give you an idea of what to expect.

Thanks for that 👍. I didn’t know there was a break in procedure. I’ll make sure I follow it.

Actually saw your video on youtube already while I was searching for other videos of before/afters lol. The AA downpipe definitely adds a better sound to it.

I'm going to be receiving my order tomorrow and I should have it installed by sunday. I'll try to take some videos of the whole process if I can.
