Good day all, I purchased a 2019 BMW 330i which had what I thought to be tyre roar - this later turned out to be a noise emanating from what I thought was the front half of the vehicle. The most likely culprit would have been an easy fix wheel bearing but after a few teats and opinions, this was ruled out. For the last two and a half years I have been fighting with BMW to get to the bottom of this ever loudening noise and they have finally admitted that there is a weird noise during the last year, but they cannot locate or identify this noise. The noise sounds like a worn dry bearing or a bearing turning in its housing.
They have now replaced the diff under the extended warranty that I took out with the car BUT the noise has not gone. They told me to drive the car at various speeds and then shift the auto box into neutral. This was done at various speeds up to 70mph and when the car was coasting in neutral, the level of this irritating noise remained the same at all speeds. The car had now done 36K miles or so and the last time I was at the dealer/garage they told me it could not possibly be the gearbox as the noise was still present even when coasting in neutral. Do some of the innards in the gearbox stop rotating although the propshaft is still spinning at speed and the engine is idling with the car is still travelling at 70mph. Surely the main shaft still turns? Sorry for the long-winded post but I am at my wits end trying to get this sorted as i have now been told this noise is normal and I will just have to live with it. P.S. this is now my 6th BMW and I know what they should sound like inside - quiet with some wind and tyre noise depending on the road surface. The noise does not disappear on either a smooth or rough surface. |

Ask them to put it in writing that the sound is normal and the car operating as designed. They often change their mind at that point as you could use it in court.
Is it on lease? Speak to the company who owns it. Their car is broken, they need to know. Hopefully that's BMW finance in your case. |

Some news?
Some news in here? I feel to have something simila to you. Just bought this car, now swapped tyres but stays the same.... I feel like it could be a vibration from the prop shaft or engine support?!
