Used car price interest

Hi all,

I have been on the search for a G21 M340i 2020/2021 for the best part of a year now, admittedly I am looking for a high specced car with basically everything other than a towbar.

The prices have not come down much in that time and the interest rates are still high for used cars. I have though of looking at a brand new one but with the LCI2 they have removed a lot of standard specs and increased the price.

So i am asking if anyone is in a similar position and where are you looking i.e. AutoTrader, BMW website, is there anywhere else I should be looking?

Lastly, I want to finance the car but keep it for the next 10 years. I have thought of getting a car loan from the bank but not looked to much into. Does anyone know of the best places for car loans?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you're looking at ‘nearly new’ used cars, then a new car with the available discounts and 4.9% interest rate might actually be a cheaper option.

I know people that remortgage for ‘home improvements’ and buy a car with it, but that was when interest rates were around 1-2%

You are after a "Bimmerpost spec" car. As we previously decided on this forum, the correct way to spec a G21 is tick every box and then decide towbar yes/no. Colour to preference.

Actually you are after my car but you can't have it cos IT'S MINE!

Good luck with the search.

Take a look at MSE's article on the best car loans - https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/lo...nal-car-loans/ they also go into other options like 0% credit cards although I know some dealers don't let you pay more than a certain % on a credit card.

Other places to consider looking at are the bigger used car places like Cinch, Big Motoring World, Sytner Select etc. Some are on Autotrader but they usually add stock to their own sites first.

With the optional extras I would need to add it will creep into £60k+.

Haha yes, although I don't need a towbar, it wouldn't be a deal breaker if it came with one. Im happy with any colour tbf, if i had the money I would go spec a brand new car with an individual colour

I think a bank loan is usually cheaper than finance. I think tesco offer around 6.1APR on loans atm. I've heard of people adding it to their mortgage due to the lower interest rate, however I'm not sure I like the sound of that routine.

Its all gone a bit stupid

About a year ago TRL posted a deal on a M340i Touring for 49k on the road

Today the best offer easily available online is via carwow and its 56k

Unfortunately BMW have stripped many bits of what used to be standard and you need to add ££££ to the above

Im not a complete nerd however these include:

Leather
Metallic paint
Adaptive susension
Decent alloys

And possible other bits............

So over the last 12 months the discounted price of a M340i has gone from 49k to almost 60

Which is exactly why I shall be driving my 530d into the ground despite the kids and dog having moved on and I no longer need the space

Please note Im very happy to downsize if any dealer network make me an offer I cant refuse. My 5er is still worth decent cash on Motorway and WBAC.......

Cheers

Yes, Indeed. Had a dealer quote me £49k last week for a stripped down 320i and that was without many of the basics like leather seats. Total insanity IMO.

Like you I’ve been looking as well, but the stealers are charging either similar or more than what you can negotiate new, it’s madness! Funny when it’s the other way round though, they want to buy them back £10k less than what their advertising them for, so win win for them as we all know.

I was offered approx 17% discount on a full spec minus towbar, new M340i touring. I’m not ready to go yet, think I’ll hang fire for the 2025 plates if I go brand new again.

If you buy second hand, then the best interest rate I found was 7.9% which is what I’m currently on.

Outside of Autotrader there isn’t much, it’s my only go too place to be honest.

I wonder how long the market can last at these prices? However, sales are clearly up so whilst the market is buying then prices will remain unchanged

I'm hoping to see a decrease in interest rates in early 2025. Although i do need a bigger car now I have 2 young passengers with me. Out of interest, how does the G21 hold up with 2 baby seats? Is there enough room for passenger and driver?

This thread has some pics of two seats in the rear https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1990184. There's also this video on YouTube showing two baby seats in the G20

Unless the 'baby' seats are of the adult fetish variety, two child seats fit in no problem on the G21 with no impingement on the driver and front passanger seats. Our G21 has various combinations of child seats and boosters at any given time.

Does anybody have experience with the G20 boot space when it comes to prams and shopping etc? I see there are more G20's available than G21's.

I’m in exactly the same boat. In fact, I think something a little nefarious is going on; I enquire about a car, explain that I need a PX, I don’t need BMW finance as am purchasing the car outright as opposed to PCP, the sales person tries really hard to sell me PCP which I say no to, I then wait for the PX value and in the meantime the car sells.

I get the impression that the sales people get a better commission off the PCP deals.

Cash is no longer king when it comes to buying a car, all the best deals and incentives are only if you take out finance as well via way of deposit contributions etc. The trick there is to read all the fine print, take them up on the finance, and then pay it off as soon as you can - any early repayment charges are usually much lower than the whole term interest and easily covered by the deposit contribution so you end up quids in.

I’m about to buy an iX1, and I’m a cash buyer. But I’ll be taking PCP because BMW then gives you a generous £4k deposit contribution. And then I’ll the cancelling the PCP as soon as I walk out of the dealers.

I believe it is actually illegal now to charge interest for early settlement of finance agreements <or you get a refund if you pay interest fees up front> and once you have paid 50% of an PCP you can terminate it (not well known that one - though it includes balloon payment so for most, it is only ever a disaster exit strategy).

Most PCP don’t charge for early settlement (they might have a very nominal option to purchase fee e.g. £10 ). What I would say is that if you have been given good service by the dealer and get a decent finance contribution, wait 2-3 months as the dealer gets nothing if its instantly terminated : otherwise, in the end, no dealers and we’ll be buying on Amazon. I have in the past done this with a dealer who knew i had cash, and did a great deal with me to get £7K finance contribution.. i agreed to cancel on 3 months as he told me they get their commissions after 1-2 months of the start of the agreement. Dealer was really great and professional so for the sake of 3 months interest, i was more than happy to help - win/win.

I did that with my second F30 and paid it off the day after delivery on the phone to BMW with no penalties. The dealer knew I was going to do it and didn't care.

By the time I bought my G21 in 2021 the price was exactly the same either way. Sounds like it's now moved back to the old system.
