Need advice on winter tyre setup (330i xDrive)
Hi everyone,
Recently I bought my first ever BMW: a G20 330i xDrive (sedan/limousine) I am looking for advice on what winter wheel setup is right (or the best). The car is currently on a staggered summer tyre setup: 255/35 R19 + 225/40 R19. When considering winter tyres, is it okay to simply go for the same 255/35 R19 + 225/40 R19 configuration? Or do I need square setup (sometimes I read that xDrive's should have square winter tyre setup). And if so, what dimensions would you guys advice? Any help and suggestions are welcome! |

The standard squared setup that BMW deliver has the width 225mm. So 225/40-19 or 225/45-18 or 225/50-17. With the smaller wheels either go with BMW suggested wheel models for your car or check that they will clear the front brakes you have. No need for 19" wheels if you have standard or M Sport Brakes (2NH).
In slush there might be a disadvantage with too wide tires and swapping front/rear each season is a feature with a squared choice. |

Many thanks for your reply! I'm planning to have these 19-inch rims be my dedicated winter tyre setup. For next summer, I'm planning to buy 20-inch rims and with applicable tyres as well. Am I interpreting correctly that you would advice a square setup for winter tyres in case of an xDrive?

Using your staggered wheels on xDrive (wider in the rear) the answer is given. You go with staggered tire sizes and tire models that provides a good match in rolling circumference.
