Frond Radar theft in London area
It appears there have been several incidents reported since April/May this year that thieves are stealing the Front Radar units of BMW and VW cars
M5 forum https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2112278 G80/82 forum https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2096285 Showing a video of the theft Anyone here who had thier stolen or attempted to steal? This is utterly concerning. Thinking of getting the Anti-theft retrofit fitted but not sure how effective it would be. Cost to replace is around £4000 which is a lot of £££ Last edited by anibap; 11-05-2024 at 08:02 AM.. |

I think the only way this will stop is if people stop buying these as spares off eBay etc. if there is no market , no reason to steal it.(well that’s the theory)
These people are scum , I’d put stronger words but moderators would probably delete. I never get why a single part is way more expensive than ordering the function from the factory |

Id spotted this on another forum
Am I right in thinking its specific to cars with active cruise? Im confused and as Im often in West London somewhat concerned On the configurator if I spec tech pack the front grill remains standard and only changes to show the radar unit if I also spec Driving Assistant Professional But listed in the blurb for the regular Driving Assistant bundled with tech pack is: "Driving Assistant is a camera and radar-based driver assistance system" Anyone? Im about to spec a new car and have never really got on with active cruise in a number of others so wouldnt have gone for it anyway Cheers |

I'm pretty sure the DAP is what's required to get active cruise, it was on my G81, driver assistant may be just the cameras, collision radar and Lane assist
Some spec guru will be long shortly .... Last edited by HeebieJeebies; 11-06-2024 at 03:29 AM.. |

In my opinion this is just another fake news story starting. All sorts of things get stolen from all sorts of cars, and then everybody starts sharing an isolated event. Before you know it, it has happened to hundreds of people.

In answer to the post above, the radar sensor is only with DAP. The other assistance (lane departure etc.) is done by the camera.

It's not fake news as it does actually happen, but it's probably being overblown.

Edit: I’ve ordered one kit + the antitheft sticker 01295A48559, not sure if it’s a warning sticker or just a BMW barcode, but it was only £2. Last edited by AlfaM; 11-08-2024 at 07:13 AM.. |

I just had a look in the workshop manual to find out how the radar unit is mounted. As can be seen in the screenshot below, it doesn't seem to use any screws at all, just plastic clips. I then had a look at the radar unit on mine, and I couldn't see the latch mechanisms shown in the pictures in the manual. Maybe there's been a redesign since the version of the workshop manual I have was released? My car is an September 2021 build?
I guess the kit shown in the link I posted must be for earlier cars. |

A thread started on the BMW motorcycle forum about the TFT dashboard being stolen from bikes in London. If you didn't live in the UK you would have thought that it was a daily occurance.
Some clever chap made a bracket to secure it and sold them, he sold hundreds of anti theft brackets. If you took the time to find out how many had been stolen you would have problems finding an individual, there were loads of friends of friends and mates of mates, but no individual. When asked, BMW UK indicated that they were not selling loads of these clusters to people who had theirs gone missing. The solution to any weakness in security was to change the 3 C clips to ones that need pliers to remove the (at a cost of about £1). That was also fake news. |
