Toyota Tundra

Upgrading my winter daily this weekend. Anyone alse on the forum rocking a BMW & Tundra combo? First foray into truck ownership after owning too many SUVs to count. In addition to being a BMW homer I’m also partial to Toyota so it was an easy decision. Also seems to be a very capable and highly modifiable platform. I would appreciate any thoughts or feedback from fellow Tundra owners.

I got a previous generation, the new ones look great. Has Toyota fixed/recalled your 3.4L V6 yet?

Yes, 2024 model year and beyond are not part of the recall and include a confirmed fix. 👍🏻

Seen a few 24s blow up already. It's the only thing that has kept my buddy from buying one. He wants one real bad but keeps seeing new 24s blowing up.

Toyota really screwed up with that motor, I dunno that they can repair that black eye. They should just bring back the 5.7L at this point.

Thanks for heads up. Very glad I passed on the 2024 on 35s given your input. If the 2025 is not bulletproof one thing I know is Toyota will make it right. My 1987 FJ60 Land Cruiser still runs line a Swiss watch at 200,000 miles.

I would have loved to see some toyota innovation and make a Tundra Prime, imagine the capabilties, geez, instead they put a broke ass motor in the truck. Pffft.

Not a tundra but a tacoma. Bought it to haul big items, trash, and snow runs.

Last time I was in Phoenix I totally killed a Chevy Equinox trying to go up to Payson...had to get it towed all the way back into Phoenix. Got a 4-runner replacement. Lots of unacceptably old ergonomic stuff in there that just didn't work great...but major respect to the 4.0 engine and drivetrain. It may not be a powerhouse...but it will work through the worst conditions and not let you down.

Had a 2016 Tundra Platinum (in Barcelona red) to go along with my M's and loved it to death. Comfy, awesome seats, great utility, fold up rear seats are cool, roll down rear glass is even more amazing.

Sold it during covid for more than I paid for it. Don't regret it because I didn't really use it as a truck all that often and went completely opposite and DDed an F87 Comp for a bit.

Took delivery on Sunday and already started down the upgrade rabbit hole. 34” KO3 tires go on this Friday along with sliders and a trifold tonneau. So far I’m really enjoying it.

Any specific reason you chose the Tundra with its iffy 3.4L over options like the Ram with the B58 Clone I6, Ford EcoBoost, etc.?

Long history with Toyota and everyone has been bulletproof. My FJ60 is an ‘87 and is a tank. Everything I’ve read and heard is they fixed the issue with the turbo in the 2025 model. And in typical Toyota fashion, they’re replacing turbos for affected owners and in lots of cases replacing entire engines. Toyota rarely screws the pooch when it comes to reliability, but when they do they take care of their customers.

Not a Toyota, but I daily a '23 Frontier ProX (I've always been a fan of Nissan, had an OG Hardbody back in the day). The Alpina and the E30 stay in the garage, the truck is my workhorse. There are some really nice trucks in this thread.

I've got a deposit down on a '25 Tundra Capstone in Blueprint... but I have no ETA or production/allocation number yet. Unfortunately, Toyota doesn't do special orders like other manufacturers, so the dealership had to put in a request with the regional distributor... it's a waiting game at this point.

I'm probably not going to keep the X5. The Tundra Platinum I test drove (they didn't have a Capstone on the lot) was very comfortable and quiet and while it's nowhere near as sporty as my X5... realistically, I don't need both, and the Tundra can do everything the X5 can do plus more, like actually haul full sheets of plywood.

It's kind of weird for me because I spent ~18 months fighting with intermittent electronic gremlins in my X5 that were finally solved by getting the entire TCM replaced. Almost feels like a new car... now that everything actually works.

Might get into an M2 or M240i to scratch the sporty itch.

My summer drive is a G82 competition xDrive. I think the Tundra and the M4 will make a great combination. 240i or M2 would also make a solid combo.

I'm in Houston so don't really need to do the winter/summer thing, but wouldn't mind having something fun for the weekends and I do love a good sport coupe. I had a W205 C63 S coupe and that was probably my favorite car to drive... it just wasn't practical enough and I got super tired of going through tires every 6000 miles.

Garage space is at a premium for me because of all my woodworking crap so that's why I'm thinking about the 2-series coupe.

For blinsc - you might want to call around to some other dealers within about 60-100 miles and see if they have what you want.

More customers in a metro area like Houston means the trucks sell quickly and dealers are usually kind of snooty about it. The same vehicle might be sitting on the lot in a more rural area.
