Iconic Glow Kidney Grille
Does anyone know if the Iconic Glow Kidney Grille will be available for the 3 series in Europe?
I have seen this on the website of BMW China on the 330LI. And now the 1 series and 2 series are getting this too. And also the new X3 has this also. If anyone knows the partnumber or how to find this partnumber it might be cool to have. I have seen it on aliexpress also, but that is not what i would want. Thanks for the help |

Thanks for the answer.
I did the same, a kidney grille from the famous Chinese express web site. Received yesterday, but not yet installed: need to find out some spare time for doing that. Meanwhile, I do remember a guy here that creates a DIY step-by-step guide for dummies. |

I’ve sourced an OEM LED grille from a G28- which is a long wheelbase version of the i3 using the G platform, and is only sold in China. This says it is arriving tomorrow, so I’ll keep everyone updated on how that goes. Not sure what I’m getting myself into, but that’s why I do what I do!
I have the aftermarket one as well, so I’ll at least be able to take some pics and show the difference between that and OEM. The aftermarket ones seemed a bit brighter than the sleek, OEM ones… hence my journey to find G28 parts. |

[QUOTE=brianeck;32300722]Oh no people like these grills?
Missing a comma? “Oh no, people like this grills?” Personally, I do, but not yet installed on my Bimmer. Eventually, I will never inatall them, no time for doing that, busy life in this period and upcoming months… Some one interested? I’m living in Italy. |

So far I have found out the OEM partnumber for the grille itself and the partnumber for the air duct with flap control which also needs to be changed as far as i found out. But i couldnt find the needed wiring. I found three "retrofitters/coders" who are doing this retrofit. I have messaged all three of them for further information, but no one wants to tell me partnumbers or details about wiring. I found one wiring diagram for an I20 retrofit where the two of the three pins are connected to A528*3B pin 40 and pin 52 on the BCP. For the retrofit on a G60 there are also mentioned pin 40 and pin 52. I just dont know if the G20 has a similar pinout on the BCP as the I20 and G60. I even found partnumbers for the 3-pin-socket and the single pins for the wiring for a G70 retrofit, which should basically be the same sockets. I also found out the code which needs to be activated in the FA/VO to get the OEM iconic glow button in Idrive 8. |

As far as i was able to find out, these maybe could be the right partnumbers:
Grille: 51135A63E81 Air duct: 51745A64539 But both parts are completely useless without the harness, which i wasn't able to find. Last edited by SapphireBlackG21; 10-11-2025 at 04:29 PM.. |

Is someone able to check if the Iconic Glow option does exist in the FA/VO? Maybe via Bimmerutility or ESYS? I am afraid that it is only FA/VO codeable in OS/IDrive 8.5 . This would make retrofitting it in OS/IDrive 8 even harder since the HU is locked via secure-coding.

I believe its option code 03DN from the research I have done
It looks like it's wired back to the BDC in the footwell. However, if it's KCAN, it could be added somewhere else for ease. |

Got the Iconic Glow menu coded in my G21 via FDL-coding just to test if it would work. (see attached Image)
Got the error message: "function not available" when cklicking on the button. But i think thats because the requirements to switch werent fulfilled (headlights on, car not ready, and so on...). Now i have activated it via FA/VO and i will have to wait until the next OTA update to get it activated again. I am going to order the parts now, make a custom wiring harness and install them. Stay tuned... |

I wish I could be more of a help- I am in my busy season at work and have not gotten to mess with this.
I will share some updated pics of the OEM grille components, as well as the results of some research that I have been doing. From what I’ve translated online, the best assistance available is the G30 Iconic Glow retrofit and harness kit (BMW 63172466430/631724666465) along with the instructions from BMW that are available. I also have the G20 pre-LCI Iconic Glow kit, which I may end up using the wiring harness & button from (BMW 63172468335). Lastly, I do plan to swap in my OEM honeycomb mesh, essentially just using the LED frame from the G28 grille. Either way, there may be some re-pin work and definitely coding… which I am an absolute beginner with. Side note- I have also acquired a used G30 grille, which has a portion of the wiring harness… maybe that will help too? We will see. Right now, it is essentially a parts pile waiting for someone to put the puzzle together. One of us will figure out the wiring soon enough! I wish they made it easier- I think it is odd that there isn’t a clear wiring harness associated with this on our platform, especially since these grilles have been available on G2x models for a couple of years now in China. Let me know if there is anything else I can show that anyone would like to see. Sorry for all the pics and random info- I hope it helps someone, somehow. |

I am already thinking of making a combination of the "fake grille" with oem wiring/coding.
I noticed that the upper part of the fake grille is slimmer and looks cleaner on the car in my opinion. Also if you got the "honeycomb/diamond" grille you don't need to get the slotted one. Also you don't need the G28 airduct with flap control(pretty expensive) and if you don't have a front camera you don't need the OEM dummy plug. |
