What is happening with G20 in 2025 / 2026?

I have read somewhat relevant threads on the next-gen platform coming in (late) 2026.

However, what isn't clear to me is what will happen during the calendar year 2025. We have the 2025 model 3-series available already with very slight changes. Is this what we should expect all the way through calendar year 2025 and most of 2026 without further adjustments (e.g. available colors, interior options (bring back merino?), quad exhaust, etc)?

Will there be no 2026 MY revision?

The G20 just had its second LCI, very unlikely they make any further changes. In calendar 25 they will continue to sell the G20, but it’s possible according to some websites like C&D the new model is released as an MY26. Realistically though it won’t be available until calendar 26 at the earliest so probably MY27.

The G2x dates in the thread(dated 2013) quoted in post#3 is obsoleted by a new thread(dated 2022) by ynguldyn as quoted in post#4.

Thanks folks - I am aware of those threads. What is missing for me is what small changes (eg color / materials availability / other) will occur after MY2025 until the end of production for g20. Especially wrt m340i.

I do not think there will be any changes until new cars arrive. I think BMW plans to releas electric first and then gas ones and in the end M3.

AFAIK there can be minor changes to colors from year to year even when there’s zero mechanical changes, but we wont know anything about that until later in 2025 when BMW either releases a news article or simply quietly updates the configurator and ordering guide. There is a slim but nonzero chance something like, say, the storage cubby returns but that would surprise me.

They have been removing features throughout the life cycle, there is next to zeeo chance they add back anything which requires tooling/manufacturing changes that add cost. Perhaps they add an option like they did with galvanic controls or some other trim options (cf in lci2), or perhaps some sort of special edition with a color/seat trim. The cost cutting taking place at all the manufacturers is agressive, just look at the interior of the new X3 it’s barely Kia level.

I don't see any post in the constantly updated thread mentioning G2x dates that differ from the 2022 thread though(post#1136 on the constantly updated thread, and post#1 of 2022 G20 thread were both posted on 5/25/2022), do u have the post# that shows otherwise?

Thanks. This is what my guess is as well. Hoping for marina bay blue, san marino blue or other awesome (non blue / grey) colors. Wish they would bring back the higher end leather option too.

LOL, SMB and MBB are part of the individual program why would they offer it on the G2X. You can opt for it on G8X at a tune of over 4K USD. They should give us a ZHP version of the M340i as a last hurrah since these cars are the last of an era. All their new products have been lackluster ala new M5, new X3 etc. This is the 3er to own unless one wants the next gen EV.

The only leather that has ever been available in the U.S. on the G2x 3er/4er is the Vernasca.

First post of this thread gets updated and it's the only thing you need to look at.

https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=901686

You have the updates listed, last one is "December 2024".

You can also see that it was: "Last edited by ynguldyn; 12-04-2024 at 01:48 AM"

Also, as for the G20 specifically:
"November 2023
The date conflict between EOP of G20 and SOP of G50 (see July 2023 update) seems to have been resolved: G20 EOP has been adjusted to 10/26."

I believe you could special order merino leather in the early years.

Nope. Not unless you did and paid for an Individual order. Merino has never been a normal option you could choose. Now that the car is built in Mexico I’m not sure if Individual is even available in North America. Higher level leathers have never been an option on 3ers in the U.S. apart from placing an Individual order and paying the substantial premium.

Usually there was a post within the Future BMW thread to alert forum members of the top post updates, but the author's posts in Nov 2023 seem to not mention this specific G20 change.

Since the same author also created a G20 sub-thread in regard to the long lasting G20 model years, it would help to also update the G20 sub-thread to match the Future BMW thread content.

Yes that’s what I meant by ‘special order’. Individual interior has not been available in several years in the U.S.

As far as N.A. goes, Canada has merino options and individual exterior color options on the configurator. The pricing for the merino leather is only about 2000$ CAD more than vernasca. It’s another 2000$ for full merino which appears to cover the door tops, upper and lower dash.

Unfortunately no fjord blue or fiona red is shown.

However the peridot green with tartufo merino looks great. Even with all these options (individual interior and exterior) the Canadian car is 90k CAD which works out to 62K USD.

Wow! The Canadian builds ROCK and they are cheap in comparison. Are there any qualms between Canadian cars getting registered on US roads? An M3 fully loaded with Merino leather in in the high 70s.

Super weird that you can configure this on a Canadian car but not US. . . If people are gonna pay for the options go ahead and make money on it. . .

Ya, its why I check-in every so often to see if USA will get some of these perks.

I like my m340i but I would do a few things differently if the options were available. My lease is coming up at the end of 2025 and I don't favor the current crop of exterior/interior color combinations besides the one I already have....arctic blue and vegas red don't look great IMO and the rest are boring greys. Portimao blue is a great color but that is what I have on my current car.

Oh well, let's see what BMW does in the Spring/Summer!

Also, to answer your question re: using Canadian cars in the USA - there are no mechanical changes. However, there are import taxes that would need to be paid and import related paperwork. Exactly how it all works and if it makes sense economically isn't totally clear to me but with the CA pricing and CAD weakness vs. the USD there are probably scenarios where it is not too bad if you live near the border.
