2020 G20 M340i 600hp Roadmap Advice

Hey guys,

Been lurking here for a while getting tips here and there, now looking for a bit of advice.

I'm looking to take my 2020 M340i xDrive to 600+whp and wondering if anyone can chime in on what's needed vs what's not, different routes in terms of port injection, tunes etc..

Now I'm not the most knowledgeable person around when it comes to modding the b58 or in general so some of these things may not be needed with the other mods but bare with me.

Goals -
Get 600whp with as much reliability as possible.
Be able to run 98 everyday and switch to e85 for track use.
Do the above as cost effectively as possible (Haha)

This is what I've put together so far (All prices are in AUD)

FTP Charge Pipe - $450
PURE900 Turbo - $6250
PRW Stage 2 LPFP - $1000
DORCH DS25 HPFP - $3000 (Needed?)
ArmaSpeed Full Carbon Intake - $2100
Wagner or Project Gamma Intake Manifold w/port injection - $4250 / $3250 (Needed? / Difference?)
Flex Fuel Kit (Needed?)
NGK Plugs + Labour - $1000
Custom Stage 3 ECU+TCU Tune - $2500

Total - $19,500

*Note - car already has a aftermarket valved exhaust system.

Please pull apart my list and let me know anything I've missed/don't need, anything thats overkill for the goal or different routes i could take this given the goal, post is pretty open ended i know but appreciate any help anyone can give.

Cheers

Unless you have that "eff you" money, I would recommend that you watch some youtube videos on how to install spark plugs, your intake, HPFP, charge pipe (etc) if you're going to modify your car. Unless you're just going for bling, you don't need a carbon intake and could go for an MST or similar. You can make 600hp on a pure 800 or 850, spend less money, and possibly spool faster and have a more usable powerband. In my limited experience, larger turbos spool later, hit harder once they do, and become a bit less streetable. Which turbo you go with will really depend on how you want your car to drive, and if you're able to hit that 600hp number on pump and E. To give you a rough idea, M340s on e50 with stock turbos make around 520hp/tq-ish depending on DA/conditions.

Yeah i could definitely do the intake, HPFP, charge pipe etc.. myself as i did some similiar mods on my 330i.

Was more thinking if I'm getting all this done and its going to be in the shop anyway for the sake of an extra $500ish might as well get them to do it all at once haha but your 100% right.

Thanks for the recommendation with the turbo.

I would suggest some cooling mods, like larger radiator, auxiliary cooling radiators, etc

Also, you will probably need a transmission if you plan to “use” the car after the mods : )

For a reliable setup to run 600 hp on E85 (and potentially push closer to 750 hp), consider the following components. Also, you can save significantly by doing much of this yourself:

FTP Charge Pipe: $450
PURE850 Turbo: $3,200
Precision Raceworks Stage 2 LPFP: $650
B58TU HPFP: $450 (Yes, this is essential)
MAD Intake: $400
Precision Raceworks Port Injection: $1,450
Motiv Re|Flex+ and all necessary connections for E85: $1,300
NGK Plugs: $85
Custom MHD Tune: $1,200
xHP Transmission Tune: $315
Pure Stage 1 Transmission: $6,000
Wagner Tuning Radiator: $1,250
CSF Auxiliary Oil Cooler: $300

Total: $16,050

Why not Pure 650? Should help the stock transmission.

Sorry, not quite up to date with market now. Is it going to be that much more expensive?

Also, I don't think you'll enjoy it as much, like driving dynamics etc... again this is just a guess.

M3 Comps of a similar year/kms are around $125,000 + Taxes in AUS M340's are around $70,000, so yeah even with list of mods above its a considerable cost difference and the 340 will be quicker.

How badly do you want 600whp haha. 500whp is downpipe and a e50 tune. Fairly cheap

It’s cheaper to mod the m340, but consider the resale…. The m3c is the way.

I don't agree, while the resale price will be higher with the M3 the total dollars lost is going to be the same.

Approx 5 year time frame (9-10 year old car)
$125,000 > $75,000 M3
$70,000 > $30,000 M340

Total "loss" is approx 40-50k either way, if anything higher loss for the M3.

And that's only if either car is still relatively low in kms.

Port injection is not necessary (DI can get there now), and he already has the TU pump as he has an M340. A LPFP is also not needed on an M340 for this power level. Not a bad idea to install new plugs when getting a new tune. Depending on the model year, he can choose BM3, MHD, or Ecutek to tune. For reliability, it may be a good idea to get a transmission build, but there are plenty of people out there with 600whp and stock transmissions that aren't grenading themselves. I wouldn't go much beyond that though, as the OP would push transmission reliability. Definitely choose an ethanol setup that works with the tuning software you plan to use.

People push crazy power out of these (relative). As for the transmissions, people just limit torque per gear and try and keep the torque limit around the 600 mark max.
