340i 2025 Seat Choices

Hi all,

First time posting, but some great info in these threads. I have just ordered a 340i for delivery in March. One thing that is confusing me is the front seat choices.

I have ordered Black Perforated Sensatec Seats, which i think means i get “normal’ seats. What I have then noticed is that when you upgrade to the Vernasca leather, the seat looks different, is this just a different pattern, but fundamentally on the same seat (it’s hard to tell from the configuration as the angle is all wrong) - and would these be classed as “sports seats”……then in the configuration you can add “M Sports Seats” - which are altogether different again.

My question is, are there essentially 3 different seat types, or two types (which would be Sensatec and Leather being the same seat, and then M Sports Seats being the second type of seats).

I notice that in the second hand market for 320i’s (1-2 year old) - they have as “standard” - “Sports Seats” (which are all with Vernasca Leather).

Please help, I believe I still have time to modify my choices but want to get it sorted asap.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Chris

Hey Chris - M340i LCI2 default seats are cloth, vernasca leather can be optioned with grey or blue stitching. The leather and stitching is extended to the door trims as well.

You can also spec M-sport seats in addition to the vernasca with blue stitching only

first image is standard vernasca leather seats with blue stitiching

second image is M-sport seats in vernasca leather with blue stitching.

Thanks so much for the quick response. So, if i stick with the Sensatec finish, do you know what they would look like (and would they feel the same as the leather. - as in, to sit on, would they have the same amount of lumbar support etc?)

See if Veganza is available. It’s BMW’s newer fake leather than Sensatec and is much improved.

The standard seats appear to be the same as in my 330i and the lumbar support is none-existant on the manual seat.

Hence this:

Thanks for this. On this basis, it feels best to go for the Vernasca leather which then gets me into the “sports” seat, and gets me away from the basic seats which Ian has pointed out, aren’t great. I’m assuming i get all the same adjustability in the sports seat as you do in the “M Sports Seats” (excl headrest).

My only thought is it is clear that Joe Achilles is very very keen on the M Sport Seats compared to the Sports Seats!

I've got 'Billy Basics' on my G21, very adequate, my G22 had better seats, not by miles though, my G81 (M Sports) are the most comfortably supportive so far.

What price comfort

Ha, well quite! If you pick M Sports Seats then they force you to buy the leather as well, so quite an expensive exercise!

When you say they are the most comfortably supportive - are you saying they are the most comfortable in total? I don’t want rock hard seats ultimately!

They are certainly plusher, more compliant under the back of my legs, from the end of my bum along to the back of the knees. The leather certainly feels softer. The G22 I felt as if they needed 'broken' in even though it was a nearly new second hand vehicle. It just felt almost 'alcantara-esque' coming into the G81.

Get down to the dealers and have a mooch around the different options

I have a pre-LCI 340i with the M Sport seats, in Vernasca leather, and having sat in both the M Sport, and the standard Sports seats, I would agree that the M Sport seats are more comfortable, and worth the upgrade, although I understand it's an expensive option.

I bought my car used, so they were not something I had the choice over, but I'm very glad my car came with them.

As HeebieJeebies suggested, go sit in them at a dealer, see what you think yourself.

Thanks for the feedback all - off to the dealer on Sunday morning for a test - who knew car buying could be so complicated!

Morning - well it was an interesting experience. The lack of knowledge in the dealership around the options is scary!

Anyway, I spent some time sitting in the Sport seats and the M Sport Seats, both were great, however if I had never sat in the M Sport Seats, I would be perfectly happy being in the usual Sports Seats; therefore I have changed my build to be the vernasca leather so that I get the sports seat (with rear width adjust). I think, therefore, my seats will have rear width adjust AND lumbar support. (If I had stayed with the Sensatec it would have not included width adjustment - I believe!).

So this means my current build looks like the below, I don't think there is anything significant missing? I'm not a big user of cruise control in my current BMW, so not too fussed about ACC - unless I'm missing something?!

That will be fantastic, hope you enjoy it. Regarding ACC I'd be tempted to give it a try - it's a huge step up from the standard cruise and can make a journey much more relaxing not having to continually adjust for traffic. That said, if you're not a fan generally then perhaps you're not missing much.

Mind you, I thought it was part of the tech pack anyway but it's a good while since I've been on the configurator....

Thanks Ian - I'm hoping it is going to be great. Out of interest, does the car have an auto brake function so that if the car in front slams its brakes on, and I don't react quick enough, will the car intervene for me? (I know this isn't part of ACC)

I am speccing a 320i G21, changing from a G20 with leather seats and am stuck on the seat choice. Leather is now out of the question at a £1,300 option as I want to spend the money on Tech Pack amongst other single options which used to be standard!

Choice between standard M PerformTex Black Cloth with M Piping or Sensatec as £150 option, I can confirm as OP has said that selecting Sensatec means you lose Driver Seat Backrest Width Adjustment which I do appreciate in my current G20. With that I am swaying towards cloth but moving from leather to cloth just doesn’t feel ‘right’?

Has anyone had experience with the full cloth seats? I am putting to much emphasis on the bolster adjustment?

That's real bummer if you lose the backrest support with the Sensatec seats. I have the M Sports seats in my car, but honestly, the car I had before had fake leather on the bolsters, and alcatara on the seat bottom and back rest and they were comfortable, cool in the summer, and warm in the winter.

OK, so we all (I think) have heated seats in the 3 series, but you don't really need heated seats in the winter if you don't have leather.

A friend has a 128Ti with the Sensatac seats, and I think they are fine, but I have not sat in them for any real lenght of time, and I have no idea if the 1 series has the option of a backrest support. I assume you mean lumbar support, but maybe you mean something else?

No lumbar support is a separate option (which I am adding) back rest adjustment as I understand it on my current 3 series it is a left and right switch on the bottom of the seat which allows adjustment of the side bolster width. I can only explain it as the sides hugging you in position when fully ‘closed’.

Ah! OK, yes, my seats have that too, and it does certainly help keep your torso from moving from side to side. Worth having for sure!
