Jerky roll off from auto hold

I have a now 5 year old M340i that has been very well behaved mechanically.

I've noticed the last few days that the usually smooth engagement/disengagement of the auto hold is now really jerky and severe. So when starting it lurches and when stopping it brakes a bit harder than before. No auto stop start involved.

Any ideas?

e-brake motor malfunction or needs lubrication? Pure speculation. I don't have experience on it.
