Wink Driving on ice/frozen lake

So has anyone drove their cars on a frozen lake?

I can't wait to try it out this year

Yea, that's high on my list of things to do this year- kill myself in a watery grave on a lake where I haven't the foggiest clue where the weak spots are. At least I'll die in my BMW in style!

Hoping, and praying, you're joking.

There aren't that many weak spots on lakes like that. In many cases the ice is thick enough to support a heck of a lot more than a BMW More like a loaded semi.

It looks like an awful lot of fun. I'd do it for sure. You can die in every day situations just as easy as situations like this, so who cares.

You can go to official events where they measure the depth of ice to be safe.

They actually measure the ice often.

Of course the best time to go is when they have the snowmobilers breaking speed records.

Ice is very strong. Much stronger than you would think. On another note, a bunch of people standing shoulder to shoulder on the ice have a much greater chance of busting through, than a car does.

Here is some ice strength info:

I did a winter tire test track for Bridgestone on a frozen lake a few years ago.

The most fun I had that day was driving with summer tires because you just slid around and there was nothing to hit.

I've driven my car on a frozen lake, but the after effect wasn't that good. I had an explosive diarrhea after that.
