Finally got to replicate the noise with the foreman in the car. Back to the shop it goes. I added the suggestion about the strut mount (thanks panki_86). So we will see now.

Anyways, I wound up loosening the swaybar link and re-torquing them to spec (this was with one side up on a jack). Took it back out and nothing! Maybe a coincidence? If your willing/can do it. Try doing this to see if it works for you. You will need a 16mm ratcheting wrench (or pass through socket) and a T30 torque bit to hold on to the link end. Google it for more details on how to remove/tighten nut. Pic of link I re-tightened: |

Same knock on mine, plus just found oil leak
At around 8k the noise started. A clunking sound from the front left which I can just feel through the steering wheel.
The car is at 20k now, and I booked it in last week for a service in 2 weeks. Today, however, after moving the car out of my garage, I found an oil leak on the floor around the inside of where my front right wheel is parked. Clear clean oil, so I think it's some kind of hydraulic leak rather than engine oil. I've re-booked it in for tomorrow. This thread has been useful, and it appears that BMW have not done enough to educate their dealers on how to fix it. My clunking noise starts after I've had the car out on a trip, so is hot under the bonnet. Almost only at slow speeds, going over slightly imperfect road surfaces. The noise is now louder than it was. I think the reason many dealers haven't been able to replicate it is because the car isn't warm enough. I recommend that if you have this issue, give the car at least a half hour's run at motorway speed and get them to test it immediately. I'm hoping, they'll be able to fix mine. |

I have a front suspension clunk when reversing and turning full lock. The steering feel has been a bit "off" for a while as well. Dealer is replacing both front tension struts. We will see if that remedies my situation.

I had a drivers side suspension clunk. when putting that corner on a jack, I noticed it would pop. I took it to the dealer and told them how to reproduce it. They ended up replacing the top hat on the strut. I swear I still hear a noise but I can say the popping is gone when jacking up the car.

I have a 2023 M340i with adaptive and with 600 miles on it, started having the left front knocking sound. At the dealer at the moment but I am sure they will tell me it’s normal. Did anyone fully fix the issue?

I got the car back today after over a week and they replaced both tie rods on the front left side. Drove home with no noise, and they did mention BMW was quick to tell them to change the tie rods out. I guess this came out while they had my car but weird it’s a 2023 having the same issue. Glad it is fixed and hopefully stays that way.

If you have a Thyssen steering rack you can get the tie rod ends replaced under an SIB.
