Is BMW i4 same as BMW 4 Series?
I'm new to BMW and on this forum. Is the BMW i4 the same as BMW 4 Series? What is the difference between M4 and 4 Series?
I'm so confused |

Current BMW 430i ( 4 cylinder) or M440i (6 cylinder) are 4 series, gasoline engine vehicles and they are all 2 door coupes or convertibles.
The 3 series 330i and M340i are the same size, but are sedans. The M340i is one of the BMW “M performance” vehicles, which means higher performance, but not a full M vehicle. The i4 is a 4 door all electric vehicle that is nearly the same size as the gasoline 4 series. There are both single motor (2WD) and dual motor (AWD) versions. M4 ( M and a single digit) is the high performance 4 series vehicle and it has a completely unique engine tuning, etc. it is also much higher priced. Last edited by Bc2005; 06-06-2023 at 06:33 PM.. |

The 4 series comes in coupe and Grand Coupe (4 door with lift back rather than trunk)
Second digit indicates engine. 3= 4 cyl, and 4 = 6 cyl 430i can be 2 door or grand coupe with 4 cyl M440i can be 2 door or grand coupes with 6 cyl and M performance parts M4 is 2 door. 3 series is 4 door coupes (standard trunk) only. 330i is 4 cyl M340 is 6 cyl with m performance stuff. i4 is electric grand coupes. There is no i3. |

What’s the differences in M440 and M4 chassis? Or is it just the engine, tuning, suspension and exterior that differs?

I don’t know for sure, but most M series chassis have a strut tower brace, and there may be subframe bracing added to make it more rigid.
In all M cars the additional bracing or chassis stiffness is part of the overall design and it works with the suspension, shocks and other components. It is not just a few added braces. |
