Motoring press? Perhaps they were just trying to get a click bait “isn’t this awful” story?

The t&c I quoted applies to all unlimited purchases from the connected drive store.

I'll phone the local dealer on Monday and check, thanks Paul, I might buy it at £160 with the 20% discount if that's the case.

But no, the article was more about all the options you get with each of the packs that were available at the time, they just hapened to mention that Connected Drive options were non transferrable to another owner.

Good to know. Thanks. I guess the journalist who wrote that article I read was talking b*ll*ocks then.

If you think about it, if it was tied to the account rather than the vehicle then in a two person household if the other person drove the car then the feature wouldn’t work.

Yes, but what was stated in the article I read was that when you trade the car in, or return it after the lease is over, at that point the car would be returned to it's factory spec with whatever options that are built into the car being retained, and any additional services or functions that were purchased or subscribed to through connected drive, would be removed, and the new owner would then need to purchase those functions and services again, should they wish to do so.

If I sold my car to you BMW wouldn’t know about it.

In theory they could: if any optional extras were linked only to a BMW ID and if that ID was then removed from the car they could then deactivate any optional extras once that happens. However at present everything is linked to the VIN so it'd need a lot of software changes to implement such a system including some sort of sharing system with any other IDs linked to the car etc. However I wouldn't put it past them as something they try to implement in the future.

And would you not then wipe your ID7 or ID8 or whatever, and remove that car from you connected drive account?

All it would take is for BMW to flag any car that's had no connected Drive ID associated with it for say 2 weeks, or an month, and then by default, they reset everything. It's all perfectly plausable.

I was surprised to learn via this post that HBA was one of the features of the Connected Drive package. That prompted me to look at what my Connected Drive Professional included on the Connected Drive website and HBA isn't in the list. I then saw in another post that with laser lights, which I have, HBA is a premanent feature.

I'll find out at the end of next month if there will be a commensurate reduction in my renewal cost - I very much doubt it!

High beam assistance isn't part of the connected drive package on any car, it's a separately charged for product.

My understanding also is that the high beam assistance on cars with laser lights is much more advanced than the one you can enable through connected drive.

Thanks for the clarification.

Well, If that's the case, this should be stated more clearly. This is what I see in my Connected Drive.

Did you think Service Inclusive was part of the package then?

How could it be any clearer than that? It's listed at a separate price of £200.

Of course not, but Service Inclusive is not a "Upgrade hardware or software in the car" option, is it.

I'd swear it also used to give you a monthy price and a annual price for a subscription for it. All I see now, is the £200 option, the other ones are no longer there.

Again, the article I read some time ago stated that when you moved the car on, any additional options you'd bought or subscribed too, would not be transferrable to the new owner.

Forgive me of actually taking what a motoring journalist wrote, as a fact!

This thread reminded me to take advantage of the high beam assist at £160.
Just trying to figure if the booster package is worth it for £71. Hardly breaking the bank but the only thing I'd use is the live traffic feature and even then its only of use occasionally.
Thinking I'm just as well using Waze for the times I'd need it, maybe 10 to 15 times per year?

It's interesting how people value different things. For me, the services on the booster pack are one of my favourite parts of the car - particularly the ability to use Spotify through the car without ever needing to use my phone for it. It just works as easily as the radio does.

Excuse my ignorance as I've never used Spotify -

Do you need a separate subscription or is it free through the car's data connection?

Would Amazon music be 'free' through the Alexa app?

You need a separate subscription to Spotify, which the car will then play through the cars own connection.

Bought the Traffic Camera Information for £20 (£5 discount)

I like this feature a lot as it alerts on the HUD/Instrument panel in advance from a quarter mile up until the location of the camera.

This is great for all UK fixed cameras - speed, redlight etc. providing peace of mind while driving and it is extremely accurate too.

This does not work in countries like France where this is illegal. Didn't see this popping up in our road trip in France in October.

Skipping the Map update this time as I use Google Maps mostly and updated the BMW map just a month ago.
Connected Booster expired but not renewing it as I don't see any value.
Most other services are there for unlimited term anyway.

Nothing else for me this time.
