Garage List
Recall now active for recent Tech deletions

For those that have picked up a new car recently with Wifi, CarPlay etc deleted (code 6P1) - BMW are now recalling to install the software that reactivates taking advantage of the new chips.

If you look online on the BMW recall tool you should see a recall enhancement code for your vehicle. I'm booked in with a dealer.

Weird it can be enabled just with a software update, why couldn't they have done that at the factory? Did it really take this long to write and test the code?

Thanks for the heads up!

Was in the dealer for ages yesterday for this update but I now have all the functionality needed.

Plus I now have Android Auto!!

The only downside is it took ages to run the update in the BMW dealership, of which will take an age if over the air...

Programming the full car actually only takes 45 minutes if all the ECUs need updates. The rest of any time will have been diagnostic work before hand ( they have to sort any errors first ), or they weren't actively working on your car

In short yes, changing chip architecture means the code needs to be rewritten and crucially if it’s not we’ll tested you’d introduce bugs which then generates lots of negative feedback.

I’ve done a rewrite due to a chip architecture and it wasn’t simple or quick.
